Their small group had just appeared in the basement of the Ubarr residence. They were welcomed by Amiru and a few knights. It was a normal welcome for an official meeting between nobles.
"Welcome, young masters." Despite the smile on her face, Basen could easily see the worry in her eyes as she looked at Rok Soo. As always, he ignored it.
He sighed inwardly before greeting her in return. Rok Soo did the same. They were then led into a living room where the knights left, finally leaving them alone. The three nobles sat down on the sofas, and two attendants arrived to serve them tea. As soon as everything was ready and the doors slammed behind the servants, Amiru began to speak. Basen was sure the words had been burning on his tongue since their arrival. "How are you, Cale?"
This made Basen think that they had promised to Amiru and the other nobles from the northeast that they would be able to come see Rok Soo once he had recovered... He sighed loudly at the thought of this other problem. Would they also have to talk to his brother's old friends about this one day ? Everything was so complicated. Lost in his thought, he ignored the looks he received from Amiru and Rok Soo.
"I'm fine." The young woman focused on Cale once more when she heard his reply. Doubt was clearly written all over his face.
The young master could understand her, the last time she saw Cale, he had fainted in front of her. He almost felt sorry for her, seeing her worry, while Rok Soo didn't seem to understand.
"Cale... I know we've drifted apart from you a bit these past few years. We certainly shouldn't have. I, like Eric or Gilbert, would blame myself for the rest of my life if something happened to you when I could have helped you..." The young woman let her tears flow freely. They already made this mistake 10 years ago, and Cale was paying the price today. She didn't want it to happen again. They already had this conversation with Young Master Basen, but Cale never got to hear their excuses himself. They were going to make up for it while their friend was visiting his territory. Eric and Gilbert were aware, the two young masters should arrive by tomorrow.
"I'm really fine." Rok Soo was embarrassed. Basen could see it, he could also understand his discomfort. One could sense the repressed feelings and genuine apologies in Amiru's words. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant for the right person. Although she didn't knew, Basen felt bad for both of them.
"Cale-" Amiru was about to keep going on, but Cale got up and left, pretending he had something else to do that was urgent and that he forgave everyone.
To anyone else, it seemed like the young man was avoiding the conversation and didn't truly forgive them. Which wasn't entirely false.
Basen, who was now alone with her, sighed at the apparent discomfort. The young woman continued to cry silently in front of an empty sofa.
"Don't worry, Cale doesn't blame you, I'm sure of it. And he's much better now that he's been resting properly. He just needs to be careful now, and there won't be any more problems." He apologized and went to join Rok Soo.

Basen had to ask for directions. Fortunately, one of the estate's servants led him to one of the rooms assigned to them for the duration of their stay. He found Rok Soo sprawled on the bed, his arm covering his eyes. He was surrounded by two kittens and a dragon, who until now had remained hidden under the latter's mana.
"I'll take the old power tonight, and we can return tomorrow." His tone sounded very exhausted.
"I don't think she'll let you go like that." Basen answered him, but the response he received was a heavy sigh.
"What am I supposed to do? I'm not him..."
He wasn't sure if he was truly asking him for advice or simply talking to himself. "You can tell them the truth, or speak on his behalf."
