Chapter twenty six - present

"You don't let people in easily, and that's okay. I understand that, but I just hope that you can find someone that you can confide in, and not feel guilty about it, because there is no need to feel guilty. I love you, and I hope that means something to you"

'Gigi had a panic attack. She's staying at mine for the night. Rocky and Aria have just shown up for whatever reason. See you in the morning'

Rereading and rereading Miles' response from last night, hadn't stopped my mind from racing. I had responded, asking the many questions, but knowing that Rocky and Aria had been at his apartment last night, I knew I wouldn't get a response. Miles was a protector at heart, and he had endured more than the rest of us. Miles and Gigi were like two peas in pod in that sense, but the two of them seemed to keep their distance from one another.

When Gen had clung to Ryder and I, I had been ecstatic, but seeing Miles face constantly fall, knowing that she didn't remember how much he did for her, hurt me more than I think it was hurting him. He still called her Gigi, but respected her space. We had all seen Rocky and Gen's argument last night when we were unpacking, so I wasn't surprised about the panic attack or that Miles had gone to check on her.

I knew he would. When he knew someone was hurting like he had, he would give them space, until he couldn't. He would do it for anyone, especially his Gigi, even if she saw him as her biggest enemy or the worst person on earth, he wouldn't care. If he could calm her down and make her comfortable for a night, that would put his mind at ease.

He had told me that he was worrying about her before we even got here. He had been worrying about her since the moment he deferred to Notre Dame University to play football for his last two years of college, after spending the first two to be close with all of us, but when he had been approached by scouts, he had to go.

We all then ended up leaving, because we had to get out of the house. Rocky never mentioned it, but our father had pretty much demanded us to be out of the house, when Rocky had fought him over our custody. We never got to bring Gen here, and that broke Miles, because he had depended on Rocky to win her over, so that he could have updates about her.

Everyone knew, even Rocky, that Gen was Miles little girl. Practically his daughter. So, when he left for football, and all Rocky did was degrade him for choosing football over bull riding, which had been what Rocky had done to Miles for most of his life along with our father, it hurt to see Rocky push our brother further out of the home. The moment I was out of Rocky's hands, I moved to be with Miles more often, even when he was travelling for football.

I lived with him, and occasionally Ryder, until the two of us bought a house in Montana to be closer to our roots. Miles eventually followed suit a few years ago, when he finished with the Los Angeles Chargers. Bailey and Silas had already been in and out of Montana for a years by that stage, having finished college and being out of Rocky's hands in Calgary, and when they moved, Rocky came too.
