Chapter Forty One - present

"I wish that this had never happened to you. If I had not made that stop, that night, to save a brother of ours, you would be still standing in front of me, being snarky and witty. You would not be laying in this hospital bed, trying to smile at me and tell me it's okay, when really it is my fault. I did this"

Grabbing at my sister's hand, I swipe my thumb back and forth over it. I wish she would just open those eyes, for a split second, so I could know that I had not fucked up as badly as all the nurses reports were telling me. They had never seen someone lose so much blood in such a short span of time. They had never seen such black ribs, nor had they seen such punctured lungs for that matter.

It all linked together. It was not just the cut in the neck that was at fault here, but it felt like it. It felt like it was the tip of the iceberg, opening all of these wounds, that I knew my little sister was covering. I knew, and I still sat back and let it all unfold. I never wanted to pressure her, yet we were here anyways, and I was know finding out the severity of it all. We all were.

"Any news on Jack?" Miles enters the room, and immediately questions me, but I shake my head. I had called the boy on my sister's phone, hoping for something, but I had not gotten a response. I had checked their last text messages, and my sister had texted him last, before we had headed to Rocky's, notifying him of what was happening, and he had not even read it.

He had not even said anything since she had texted about her decision, but I knew they had spoken verbally between then and now. It had been hectic in our household, with the moving out, and our father heading to jail, but it was now getting worrying, that Jack was not responding either. I knew he had left with Gray a day before us, but he would of had service now.

He would have reached Gray's place, which was near where the rest of us were supposed to be headed, so I am sure Miles would have crossed paths with Gray, but he had not said. "Nothing yet" I had even inputted his number into my phone, and tried getting through to him that way, but it was like he had vanished. I was seriously worried. Miles then muttered something about getting in contact with Gray, and that took some weight off my shoulders.

I sighed, at my little sister. "You deserve so much better" I murmur, right as Silas walked in. I stand back, already knowing in his eyes that he had something to say. He had luckily just been cleared to take his shoulder out of a sling, but I knew how much everything else was weighing on him, that he barely noticed.

"I actually want to speak to you, Ry" right as I went to step back, and out of the room to follow Miles, he stops me in my tracks. I nod my head at him. "I wanted to thank you, for what you did for me all those years ago. Even when we were living in that house with our father, you and Miles truly did it all for us" I can't help but get sappy with my younger brother.
