Chapter Thirty Nine - 14 years ago

"You were a daughter to me. I practically raised you, when I wasn't raising all of my other kids. You were the kid I kept closer to me, than the others. You were my favorite, even if I was tired, or annoyed, I always made sure you were the center of my solar system"

Sitting on the top step, was my little sister, looking tired as ever, her eyes drooping, as she tried to keep track of the boys that were walking around her, as one of the dogs was tucked into her side. I smiled softly up at her, as her head drooped even further into her hand. "Come on G, let's get you into bed" Ryder is immediately at her side, as soon as he has gotten out of the shower, but my sister does not budge.

I shrug off my jacket, taking my eyes off my sister, that bats her brothers hand away, before I finally make my appearance known. "Only naughty girls get to stay up late" I murmur, and my sister immediately sits upright, almost catching the bottom of Ryder's chin, as he had leant down to try and pick her up.

It is way past her bedtime, but it had become a routine that the boys would watch my shows, where I would compete for a title, and then Genevieve would be waiting for me to come home. I think to her, it was a safety thing, knowing that all of us were under one roof, all asleep together. I didn't blame her, as I shared the same worry when one of the boys were not home. It was a hereditary trait, by the looks of it.

"Ryder, I've got it" I immediately cut my 17-year-old brother, whom I know deep down, would change the course of the world for our little sister if he could. He hates it though, yet I find it the most endearing thing, as said brother is almost the tallest out of all of us, and would rather punch one of us in the face for entering his room, than hugging one of us.

And I understood that anger, as I had been the same way when I was his age. He nods his head, and I know he is not going to bed, but rather staying up all night to study. I can see the weight of it all in the bags under his eyes. Looking after kids, while I have the freedom to travel to places I never dreamed of, isn't fair, but I am providing for the family.

They kicked my butt when I tried to stay, so I had to go. They practically shoved me out the door and slammed the door in my face, before locking it. They even did it to the back door, and it made my heart warm, that they were proud of me. That they cared enough to let me go, knowing I would come back.

But sometimes, coming back, and knowing what I am up for, with my father, is not something I want to keep doing. I would rather work in town, than have the stress of all of that. So, I reach my sister, and swoop her into my arms, as she snuggles right into them. I am glad I took a shower before arriving, as I would not want to miss this for anything.

It is only then, do I hear the fight that is emerging from the bathroom. "Bailey, do not flick water at your brothers cast" at the sound of Miles' voice, makes me smile a little. I hear soft giggles from the girl in my arms, and my smile brightens. "What are you laughing at?" I then gently poke at her stomach, eliciting more laughter from the little girl.
