Chapter Eleven - Present

"I had watched my brothers shut me out, time after time. They had left me home alone for hours at a time, where they had turned the light off and walked out, pretending like they had never had a sister, before they would rush back and beg for my forgiveness that I gave willingly, because I was a child. I was only a child that was forced to grow up.

Doing the final checks of the diner, I made sure that everything was shut, while Jack did a final sweep of the kitchen, as the final few staff left, while we were on lock down. I then grabbed my belongings, as Jack did as well, before he slung an arm around my shoulder, as we walked out of the diner. "Kinda missin' Beckett" was all he murmured, as he turned to lock the front door.

I just nodded at him, as I hadn't really thought about Beckett, as I was too caught up with my family drama. Sometimes, I envied Beckett. He could easily move away from this town when he had the chance, to play football, and forget Jack and I, but mainly me. Jack could be at his side in a heartbeat, because they were just as good as one another.

While I would be stuck here forever. I would never have the money to get out, no matter how much I worked or got the degree to get out of here, I would always be tied down here. As badly as I wanted to get out of here, the more this town would tie me down. I didn't have the money or support that my brothers had had when they had left this town, making that anger in the pit of my stomach grow even more.

Idling in front of the diner, was the person I was expecting, or rather people. I was only expecting one of them, as he had kept his promise, but I did not expect the two other people next to him. My skin crawled with anger, as I diverted Jack away from the truck, and down in the opposite direction. "Really?" was all Jack had to say.

"Mmm" was my hummed response, as I kept walking, knowing exactly where I needed to go. I could hear the engine of my brother fancy truck following us, and I so badly wanted to turn, and yell at them to leave me alone, but I didn't have the energy to do so, especially after the day that I had had with them, it wasn't worth it. No matter what, they wouldn't give up.

And for some reason, I wanted them to give up. To give in. "Eve" someone called out, and I raised  my shoulders to my ears, as I closed my eyes, letting Jack take the lead for a second. "I've got you" was all he murmured, as we quickened our pace when I opened my eyes again. Did they not understand that I had expected them to drive away the moment that they had parked in the driveway and I had ignored them.

Did they not understand that I paid for them to live in my house for free. Did they not understand that they had kicked me out of my own home and while I hoped that they would drive away within days of getting here. Did they not understand that I had expected Rocky to go back and defend his wife, rather than sitting here, waiting around to pick me up from my shift so I didn't have to make Jack walk me home in the dark or stay at Beckett's house because people were lurking around the street that Jack and I lived on.
