Prologue - 12 Years ago

"All I could do, was watch. I had to let them go because they let me go"

All I could do, was stand and stare, as each and everyone of my brothers made a point of not speaking a word to me. I stood on the railings of the gate, letting it swing back and forth with the wind, every now and then having to push myself forward or backwards to keep it in motion. I had read the social cues about an hour ago, that I was going to be on my own for a while, as Rocky had made me pour my own cereal.

Normally, he would wake me up, occasionally he would lie down with me, pretending that the chaos was not happening down the hall, before we would get up. He would hold my hand as we walked down the stairs, before he would sit me up at the big counter, while the floorboards would creak under his feet, as he made work of getting me something to eat.

He was doing less and less work on the ranch these days, because he had gone to college in the spring, meaning that summer was around the corner. Except, this summer felt different already. My brothers were walking in and out of the house, not bothering to include me in anything. I took no offense to this, cause if I did, I would have to take offense for just about every little thing my brothers did towards me.

I was 6 years younger than my youngest older brother, and he was probably one of the closest people to me in this family. I knew that I bothered him from time to time, which I had started to pick up from most of my brothers, as he would tell me to go away or just shut the door in my face. For the past few months, my brothers have been acting weird around me, whispering all the time to one another, but I had just not bothered to accept that it could have been bigger than I thought it was.

"Parks!" I called out, jumping down the fence at the brother that I had been waiting on to come back from the shops. Normally, he would take me on a Saturday morning, but this Saturday, was something else. My brothers had emptied out of their rooms. It was a large house, but we still had to share rooms, while I got the tiniest bedroom that there possibly could be, up next to Rocky's bedroom.

I didn't have bathrooms like the rest of them, only enough space for a single bed, which lined from wall to wall, and a dresser. That was all I had, and I had never once said a word about it, when I knew my brothers had much larger rooms; more than enough space to fit two queen beds and more. I had my eyes on the downstairs spare bedroom anyways.

"Yeah Gen?" my brother questioned, as he kept walking, bringing in a few hay bales. It felt weird, chasing after him. Normally I would be offering to carry some with him, but I knew that I would get in their way. I had been yelled at earlier, for getting in the way of Miles and Ryder, so I had banned myself out to the fence, and I was sure that no one had noticed me up there, except maybe Parker.
