Chapter Six - Present
"I hate you, and you hate me. I used to love you, but you never loved me. You hated me from the moment you saw me, and that's okay. I dealt with what you gave me, and right as I am figuring everything out, you want to come back and change it. I won't let it happen. I just won't, especially if you involve Jack in it"
"Just jump in" Jack splashed the water, as I slid my body in, while Beckett was more tentative. He always had, and I was surprised as to why he didn't have a girlfriend yet, but I knew why. I knew he had a bigger heart than most boys, and girls didn't like that I hung around him, or Jack. They were the untouchable boys at school, and girls craved them until they saw me.
"He's crazy, if he thinks I'm jumping in" Beckett then slid in beside me, as I waded out into the lake, as we had ended up at Beckett's house. We were heading into some of our final exams, which meant we didn't have to be at school every day, and most people would love that. They would love that they could laze around at home, but not for us.
I had had a conversation with Beckett's mom, while I waited for the boys to come home, after my incident with Ryder, and she had said that we were happy to stay with them. They had spare bedrooms, as they had bought the house that had once hosted a family like my own, just a street over from mine and Jacks. We had slipped right in, as we worked at the diner and it was not a problem for them, and no one really drove.
Plus, they were happy for the extra hands around the farm, as there's was still functioning, while mine had shut down the day that my mother had passed. We had tried to get it up and running, but 5 years later, it had shut down once again, as the boys had left, shutting the gate for one final time. I would have to go back from time to time, to feed and check in on the horses, and make sure that my hard work hasn't been ruined.
At this rate, I was letting my brothers move in, and making sure that it didn't bother me, was an issue in itself. Out of the three of us here, Beckett was the only one not affected, so he let us talk about it for hours, without interrupting. He was the support mechanism for the two of us. "What ya thinkin' about?" Jack came over, as him and Beckett had swum out further, before he came back.
Before I got a chance to answer, I was pushed under, letting myself float back to the top when Jack was finished pushing me down. I laughed, splashing him, before I was relishing in the feel of the cooler water over my body. Summer was approaching, and I couldn't wait to be able to be at the lake all day every day. To have no worries.
There was only about a week left, and I had about 3 exams to get through, before it was all over. The year would come to a close with a big party at one of the popular girls houses, which was really just the mayor's house, which was one of the few houses that had a pool. I wasn't keen on going, but it would be one of my last ones, and I wasn't about to waste it on a girl that didn't like me.
