Ch 5: Rescuing The Damsel
I awoke abruptly to someone doing CPR on me, and I gasped for the air the person was pushing into my lungs greedily, my lips moulding with theirs. I rolled onto my side once it got to be too much for me, coughing so much that it shook my body but I lay there panting after my coughing fit.
After a while my breathing calmed down enough that they were able to try and give me water, but I coughed lightly into Nick's chest as he gently moved me to be in his arms while I lay on his lap.
"Jake...," I whispered hoarsely, seeing dark figures around me as my vision became blurry once again but I closed my eyes slowly as I went limp in Nick's arms. His scent was so much like mine and Jake's, and it was invading my senses as I let the darkness overcome me again...

When I came to my senses again a few hours later, I found myself lying on my left side with my wrists tied together in-front of me, my legs together and slightly bent. My hair was up in a loose but messy ponytail, which had been put over my right shoulder so it would be away from the nape of my neck.
I was too warm and it only magnified as I was still lying in the only stream of sunlight; I knew for sure that my cheeks were pink.
I coughed a little when I tried to swallow, my throat as dry as sandpaper but I blinked a few times as my eyesight fixed itself from being blurry as someone came towards me and kneeled down behind me.
I whimpered as I felt them brush a few strands away from my neck, holding my hair against my head before placing a wet folded face-cloth to the nape of my neck, placing the end of it on the side of my neck so it didn't fall when they removed their hands and moved away from me.
The person kneeled down in-front of me and I saw that it was Nick, but he held the cold compress and my ponytail up for me as I sat up using my hands, taking big gulps of the bottle of water he had given me as I tilted my head back.
He didn't let me lie back down, instead, he held me in his arms while he removed the cold compress from the back of my neck to my forehead.
I closed my eyes as I felt a shiver pass through me from the drops of water rolling down my temple and over my cheek. Nick wiped it away with his thumb with a feather-like touch before he gently manoeuvred me to be sitting with my back against the tree trunk.
I closed my eyes as I tilted my head back so my head was resting against the rough bark. I put my hand up to touch my still raw neck, but Nick's hand stopped mine by grasping it in a secure grip.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked him again softly, moving my head to be able to look him in the eyes, but he frowned as he looked away, taking his hand away from mine as he stayed kneeling in-front of me.
"Why are you trying to destroy your own kind?" I whispered when he refused to respond, but he growled as his head snapped towards me straight away, his true nature flaring along with his temper.
"You wouldn't understand the feelings I have...I've lost everything...," he said lowly, quiet growls still erupting from his chest as he reigned in his anger but I studied his eyes that were completely golden and were glowing as they started to dim into their more natural colour.
"Try me," I said softly, but he shook his head as he stood and turned to leave.
" It's the least you can do before you kill me," I said in a quiet voice, my throat hurting like crazy whenever I tried to raise it further. He stopped walking on his fifth step and just stood there like a statue; I wasn't even sure he was breathing.
