"Charlie section"
Fifth time zone: interrogation room
Local time 10:00 a.m.
Tuesday – Tehran – Iran
Charlie was sitting on the bed. He ringed his arms around his legs and held himself over his chest. His body shook in this position like an autism patient without stop! Since yesterday afternoon when he arrived home at about 3:30, he went to his room without thinking about the previous day's terrible events. He locked the door and sat like that in the room alone. His mother Sarah didn't show any specific reaction. Charlie knew that his mother already knew about restaurant events. It was always was the same. When something bad happened in their relationship Sarah allowed Charlie to be alone for a period of time and wait until Charlie told her about his problem. Then she just said: "I knew it!"
Just like now, his mother guessed that something bad had happened in the relationship between his son and Debra. So she let her son take the time to rest and think. Charlie was thinking, but not about the restaurant event; rather he thought about what happened after the restaurant. He was thinking about the people who were frozen in supermarket. About the three Daevas who thought they smelled the perfume of Peris inside the supermarket. About the queen of the Peris, who was wounded in the park, and finally, about killing a Daeva with some kind of a nail-throwing device!
No! Repeating didn't help him. From yesterday until now he had repeated this event more than a hundred times. He couldn't forget yesterday's event; whenever he was about to forget it just for moment, the pictures of Daevas and Peris came to his mind. Charlie decided yesterday afternoon not to tell anyone about yesterday's event and what he had seen. Although...maybe he would feel better after saying he saw something? Of course, he wasn't going to tell anything to his mother. No! Surely she wasn't a good choice. So he decided to tell Debra everything he had seen. Charlie picked up his cell phone and dialed her phone number. But instead of Debra's voice he heard another woman's voice that said: "The number you have dialed cannot be reached. Please try again later."
The woman's voice made Charlie nervous. At least twenty more times he heard this computerized female voice. This voice had the same meaning for him. Debra didn't want to speak with him or anyone else!
At night he fell asleep. After all of the strange and terrible events he needed sleep, but the sleep wasn't more than half an hour. He had a nightmare when he was sleep. He saw a Daeva with a nail thrower coming toward him. He didn't have any power to escape. The Daeva was right over his head. It carried the nail thrower at its side. He was speechless. He couldn't say a word. He sweated. Charlie was afraid but he couldn't speak. The Daeva shot. The nail flew into his side. At this part of the dream he woke up with a loud scream. He screamed so loud and even her mother who was sleeping on the couch in the living room woke up and asked him what happened from behind his door. He didn't answer.
He had a bad dream again later that night, but he woke up without screaming that time. Then for the third time he had a nightmare tonight. This time there wasn't any Daeva. He saw the queen of the Peris in dream! She was wounded and asked for help in the corner of a park. But when Charlie went to help her, a Daeva appeared who going to kill them but Charlie killed the Daeva...
When he woke up for the third time the clock showed about four in the morning. He decided not to sleep again. He was tired from this nightmare. That third dream was more like reality than a nightmare. But Charlie was sure it was just a nightmare too! When the clock showed close to five he realized that the third dream was something that had happened for him the day before!
But at that moment he realized something else. Yesterday morning when he was eating breakfast he remembered what his mother had said, that his father had a passion for Daevas and Peris and believed in them. His father wished one day he could find the land of the Daevas and Peris. But what connection was there between this issue and yesterday's events? He didn't know. But this issue annoyed him. He thought at that moment that his father was killed by Peris, but he quickly rejected it. The Peris who Charlie had seen had no interest in killing humans! However, he thought, maybe the Daevas killed his father. But he quickly realized he was only considering these possibilities because of fear remaining in his body. His father was killed in a car accident. Daevas and Peris weren't civilized enough to drive a car and kill his father! Their civilization was still on the nail thrower! The fear impelled him to think about this issue logically.
But after seven o'clock he didn't think about Daevas and Peris anymore. Why should he? Whatever happened yesterday was over. He killed a Daeva. It was true, but no other Daeva had seen him there to come for vengeance. But even if any other Daeva had seen him in the park, it was no danger to him. That Daeva would have to wait thirty years for vengeance! That was what yesterday's newspaper said, something about a war between Peris and Daevas happening once every thirty years. So there was no danger to him. When he thought about it like that, he feel much better. The intrusive thoughts annoyed him less and the sense of fear was not strong in his body like before. After a few hours he conceived a sense of peace in his mind, so Charlie said to himself: "I can forget everything I saw."
