Yamaguchi has disappeared?

The way that question sends chills down my spine is eerie. It begins to reopen scars. Yachi's fearful eyes, the way she stands in a closed-off way, clenching her arm— I feel like I am looking in a mirror. She could be over exaggerating, but I don't think so. She is afraid...

But of what?

"...You said you heard something? Maybe it was Yamaguchi running off somewhere." I try to reassure, taking a step closer to her. I peek into the alleyway to her left, looking into the direction she'd glanced to before her gaze connected with mine.

"I... I don't know..." She stutters. Suddenly, she's squeezing her arm tighter with her eyes pointed at her feet. "I thought I heard something strange. It sounded like maybe a big cat crying for help..."

My shoulders begin to lower, just slightly. So she heard a cat. She must be empathetic towards just about anything, I can tell it's in her nature... but I just hope it doesn't get her in trouble someday.

I soften my eyes as I place my hand on Yachi's shoulder. She jumps back a little, but she isn't at all uncomfortable. I smile as sweetly as I can. "Do you want to look? For the momma cat, I mean?"

I can't tell what's gotten her so shaken. I don't know if it's because of the Momma Cat or Yamaguchi... or maybe it is something else entirely. Regardless, I watch her as she begins to fondle with her ponytail. "Well..."

"It'll only take a second, yeah?" I attempt to egg her on. If I'm being honest, I know I should be touching my nose right now— I know every sense of mine is telling me to turn away; but...
The more I stare down this alleyway... I just get this feeling.

It's not sickening or scary, but... curious. My senses are telling me to turn away, to investigate— but I feel like I'm gambling. Like I'm reaching into a void.

There is a noise; a scrt. And after noticing very, very slight movement behind the dumpster. I flinch a little.

That... certainly does not look like a cat. Yachi doesn't notice, and I have a feeling she has no intention to.

"I think I'd like to catch up with the others now..." She speaks honestly, beginning to pivot. Her eyes never meet with mine... I can't help but frown. Maybe I make her uncomfortable.

So I relax and let out of a bit of a huff. It isn't my intention to make her do anything she doesn't want to do— I want to look out for Yachi; not make her feel bad.

"Yeah, no I get it!" I reach for her arm, interlinking us and I give her a very light jerk. "Come on! I wanted to talk to you in private anyway, I had something to tell you."

She's surprised, and very cute when she's flustered. The two of us begin on our stride, and so she places her hand on my arm.

"Yes?" She chirps. I crane my head to the side, and I can hear my earrings jingle. "He likes to brush his teeth after every meal."

I watch her eyes stir up confusion, and with a chuckle— I sponge in her perplexed state. "I don't think I know what you mean."
