I stomach it. I stomach it all. Yuuta's torn limb, the mangled body that rests beneath us, the lunch I had not even eaten yet.
My eyes remain wide. I silently continue to apply pressure to Yuuta's amputated leg, trying my hardest to stop the flow of these memories I wanted to forget. Of Nana.
"Oh my god!"
"This can't be real! I just watched someone die!"
"Hello...? Boss...? ...You're never going to believe me."
I slowly turn my head, back into the direction I'd watched all this drama unfold. For just a couple seconds... I could see someone.
In between bodies of other's passing; he's retreating into the shadows— somehow carrying the personification of someone who knew too much.
This is all connected somehow. Whoever was talking to that homeless man is a part of something bigger, but I try not to think about it.
I gulp, turning my head back to Yuuta. My eyes remain wide and my breathing remains shaken. I hold him tight, caressing his forehead and his short fringes.
"It's okay... you're going to be okay..."
"It's okay..."
It's okay.
I find myself muttering these words... hoping it'll manifest just that. I don't know what I'll do if I lose Yuuta like this. Somehow... it feels like it'd be all my fault.
I continue to cradle him, not daring to let go. My heart bleeds, just as much as tears turn my eyes dry.
Yuuta is losing his warmth, but I keep his body surrounded by mine. It's a gentle reminder to him that I am still here.
"You'll be okay."

I spent hours at the train station; telling detectives and policemen alike what happened. It was tragic, but it was no coincidence. Somehow; these events are connected.
But one detective in particular... Mr. Gaku... was his name?
He didn't seem to believe me. I'd shown him my phone— the messages that I knew I hadn't sent— yet he was still doubtful. He thought it was nothing but an accident.
"The man that was responsible for attempting to murder Yuuta is dead. He'd rather take his own life than deal with the consequences— there's nothing much else to it."
"I'm sorry, I am. I wish him a smooth recovery."
It's annoying, but there's nothing I can do. Besides, I'd rather see Yuuta healthy before I dig deep. I haven't left Yuuta's side since he's been in the hospital. He had a six hour surgery and hasn't been awake since.
I keep my head on the sheets below me, clinging to his side like a dog would its owner. By now the tears have stopped, and I'm just waiting for him to pull through.
But there is a sound. A ruffle. Just the slightest tug beside me that causes me to raise my head, slowly.
Yuuta turns over. As quietly as he could before I could notice him. I shoot up from his side, smiling out of relief; but still sad from his tears.
