🚨 BREAKING NEWS:

"A tragedy occurred just last night. The body of a middle-aged woman was found severely bludgeoned just outside of xxxxx—xxxxx. The police suspects that the victim was mugged, but the use of force here paints an entirely different picture. Until we get an identification on the Jane Doe, we encourage families to come forward if anyone you know has disappeared in the last thirteen hours. And please be aware, this is an ongoing investigation— so until our culprit is caught; be extra vigilant."

"Now, onto our next update on last weeks case. Clan leader of the Ikeda-gumi gang has just been arrested under the suspicion of murder... Ennoshita..."

Crime rates here in Iwate are spiking— It's been a long time since I've seen two deaths in one week. What a cruel world we're living in... To kill just because you have the power to.

What an awful person, I think.

I lower my phone. Anyway, I'm on time to my class today, Mr. Vick will have a hard time singling me out...

It's just that I couldn't sleep very well last night. I know it should be because of Asahi's death, but it was because of my thoughts. It sounds bad, sure— may Asahi's soul rest easy— but there's something about Kakeru... I can't ignore it.

I listen to a shuffle beside me. It's Yachi. She settles herself just a seat away from me, and I can't help but roll my eyes. Me and Hinata were doing so well...

... But still, I did have two years to seal the deal with him... I'm really the one to blame here, and instead I'm foolishly getting mad at someone else. It's just that... I  thought he'd be around forever. I sigh.

I pull out my textbook and begin to doodle.

"Thank you students for waiting. The weather was very unrelenting this morning— so thank you for staying with me." Mr. Vick speaks, lowering his things.

Pebbles of water drips from his raincoat and his brown fringes— he looks different without his glasses too; and not in a bad way. I think we're all thinking the same thing by our lack of words and bleeding eyes.

"Now, who's hungry for a lesson?"

I flip my page and cup my hand in my chin. I try not to pay Yachi any mind, but I can't at the way she's burning holes into me. I make a glance, raising a brow.

She immediately becomes shifty, shoulders heightened with parted lips. She looks guilty, like I wasn't supposed to have caught her. I reach for my laptop, switching it on to make her feel less embarrassed.

"Did you need something?" I ask her. I don't mean to hiss, but I am. I begin to clack at my keys, knowing I am not formulating any sentence. Even if I am, it doesn't correspond to the lesson. I'm still distracted.

"O-Oh..." She stammers cutely, hesitant to continue. "Well... I was just wondering how you're doing... You seem a little annoyed..."
