The classroom buzzes with noise and the usual chaos, but my eyes search for him until they land on the third bench.
He's sitting there with his AirPods plugged in, a slight smile playing on his face—so different from his usual frown.
A few of us have arrived early, before the lectures begin. "Hi there," I say, taking a seat next to him. His eyes visibly light up when he notices me, and it gives me instant butterflies.
"Hi." He replies, smiling wide.
He removes his right pod and tucks it into my ear.
I instantly recognize the song by its melody.

A smile tugs at my lips as I secretly watch him from the corner of my eye, quietly realizing the moment we’re in—how simple, yet how special it feels.
A couple of minutes later, Khushi enters the class and walks over to her bench. She looks pretty, like always, but I can't help but notice how she seems a little dull today.
I make my way to her bench, where she’s quietly removing her books from her bag.
"Khush?" I call her by her nickname.
She visibly snaps out of her thoughts with a slight flinch.
"Hm?"
"Are you okay? Where's Tanmay?" I ask.
"How would I know? I'm not his damn assistant," she replies sharply.
"Oh, sorry... I just asked because you both always come together," I say, confused.
"Well, things change," she sighs before adding, "I broke up with him."
"What!? Why!?" I whisper-shout, trying to keep my voice down.
She doesn't respond, just looks away.
"And by the way, what you did yesterday was not nice. Flirting with my cousin? Really?"
"Look, I don't know what's wrong with you both, but just figure it out. Tanmay never misses lectures—except when he's on a date with you. But today, he isn't here, he's not with you, and Aarav called him but he's not picking up. He's clearly not okay—"
