Almost two years later...
She steps into the college auditorium where we've shared every event for the past two years while wearing the most breathtaking saree I've ever seen.
But when her lips curve into that cheeky smile while she chats with Khushi and a few classmates, I realise... it's not the saree.
It's her. It's always been her.
She tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear, her fingers brushing the jhumka I bought for her.
It matches perfectly with her lilac saree, like it was made for this moment. For her.
Come on, already. Notice me so I don't look like a creep, staring at his girlfriend.
Tanmay bumps my shoulder with a smirk, catching me mid-stare. His eyes flick to Khushi and linger, just for a second too long.
They'd decided they were better off as friends. Or, well...they'd decided to pretend they were.
"Sorry to break it to you, but she's not giving you attention tonight," he teases.
I narrow my eyes.
And then as if on cue, she turns. Finally.
Her back no longer shields her from me, and now I can see her face. Her smile is wide, her eyes crinkled at the corners.
She looks really really happy. And that makes me really really happy.
