One fact at Grey-Sloane Memorial was that secrets were rarely kept and gossip would flood through the hospital faster than a surgeon who had just been paged 911. As Owen and Amelia were leaving the neuro office, Owen fussing with his halfway buttoned shirt, they collided with none other than the ortho goddess herself. They were certain their relationship would be old news in an hour. Amelia managed to make it through the entire day without any weird looks or snide comments. Owen was surprised that Callie had finally learned to keep her mouth shut. However, if he would've just paused for a moment to glance at the OR board, he would see that Callie had been rushing her way to an emergency knee reconstruction. Therefor, she had no time to raise her eyebrows, give them a lecture, and then tell the entire hospital. For that, Amelia was grateful to whatever kind of god was with her.
Lunch rolled around and Amelia found herself at a table with Meredith, Maggie, Alex, and Arizona. Alex was describing his "pretty sweet surgery" and rubbing it in Arizona's face while Meredith and Maggie were complaining how hard it was to go out while working 18 hour hospital shifts. Amelia had heard it all before and quickly zoned out of the conversation. She found herself with eyes set on Owen Hunt who was amidst the chaotic cafeteria line. He was wearing scrubs obviously; Amelia had ruined his shirt. The dark blue fabric against his pale skin made her feel some type of way. She must've looked a little too long because she was interrupted by a rather rude Alex Karev.
"Dude, you're staring," He said, clearly done bragging.
"I was not! I... I just wanted to see if they had any... uh... cookies left," She fumbled over her words forcing all eyes on her.
"At who!" Maggie piped up and Meredith responded for Amelia by jerking a thumb towards Owen. Maggie's eyes got wide but she, for once, didn't speak a word.
"Anyway, I'm cutting into a kid's brain today and I was hoping you still wanted to assist?" Alex took a huge chomp out of his burger.
"Our hemispherectomy kid?" Amelia's thoughts were starting to come back from their brief daydream.
"No our colonoscopy patient," Alex said sarcastically. "Yes of course or hemisphere kid!"
"You don't have to be a jackass about it," She glared at him. "But yes, I'll scrub in."
Alex went back to annoying Arizona who rolled her eyes at his endless mocking. Amelia had become a little over confident that Maggie had just let the whole staring thing go, but much to her dismay, she wasn't so lucky.
"So are you two like, a thing?" Maggie asked, leaning in a little closer across the round table. Amelia didn't say anything and looked down at her shoes. "I knew it! I knew it! That was a hickey you were trying to cover up the other day!"
"I just burned myself with a curling iron. It wasn't a big deal!" Amelia defended; the edge in her voice was a dead giveaway.
"It was so a hickey," Maggie teased, a smirk playing on her lips as she leaned back seemingly very satisfied with herself.
"Was not," Amelia mumbled under her breath and stabbed her salad with her fork a little too forcefully.
"He gave you a hickey?" Arizona asked, a bit of disgust on her face.
"He's given her a lot more than that," Meredith chimed in making Amelia cringe.
"Oh my god can we just move on!" Amelia screeched and glared at Meredith.
"You knew?" Maggie asked, a little too shocked.
"Of course! Before I moved, she was always coming home late and acting as if wearing the same clothes from the previous day was perfectly normal," Meredith looked over at her half sister who was grinning with a little too much happiness and then over at her sister-in-law who had her face in her hands.
