Those words were deafening.
The world was slowing again, but this time from fear, not power.

"You can't be serious inspector! And even if you were, she's under-"
"Wunderous Society protection. Yes I know." Inspector Flintlock cuts Jupiter off.
"However, I can take any individual into custody if they pose an imminent threat."

Morrigan's head was pounding. Whether it was her concussion or the blood pumping through her veins, she couldn't tell.

"She is not a threat Inspector, she can barely stand for goodness sake!" Jupiter cried, stepping protectively in front of Morrigan.
"Captain North you..."
The sound of their argument was fading, overcome by the panic consuming Morrigan. She felt like the walls were closing in on her.
I need air.

She starts into a stumbling run down the alley, ignoring the protests of the inspector.
Someone grabs her arm but she shoves them off, quickening her pace.
Officers were surrounding her as she escaped the suffocating alley, but the panic takes over, unleashing blasts of fire from her trembling hands.
This keeps the officers at bay, so she doesn't stop, her sense was locked away, overridden by her instinct to survive. So no, she does not stop. Not when she hears officers ordering her to stop, not when she stumbles over loose stones, she just keeps going, because she's seen this script before, and she didn't like the ending.

She could just barely hear her name in the wind as she ran.
Jupiter.
I'm so, so sorry.
Chaos grew tenfold behind her as flames of her own making licked at the heels of fleeing officers. And she knew then, that they would hunt her until she suffered the same fate as Ezra Squall, no matter what protections Jupiter and the Wunderous Society could give her, because they fear her.

She had rolled the dice. going out to courage square, to Squall, was a gamble. One that didn't cash out. Yes, she saved her friends, but at what cost? It felt like her whole life was a losing hand, she just had to bluff her way through, until her masks slips, until the game is up.

So she ran. And ran. And ran. Further than she'd ever gone before. To the other side of Nevermoor. Past Wunsoc, and into the wilds of the free state.
Jupiter's voice haunted her.
She ran until she collapsed, surrounded by rolling green hills and thousands of wildflowers. Exhaustion was setting in, but only one thought floated around her mind. One thought.
Is this my happy ending?
