Morrigan landed with a thud on the forest floor. Gasping for breath she opened her eyes to see dozens of red ones staring back at her.
As the closest wolf prowled ever closer Morrigan scrambled to her feet, her hands reflexively moving into a defensive position.
"Get back!" She cried into the pitch blackness of the hunt. Why she even bothered was a mystery, they're the hunt of smoke and shadow! Not some little puppies that run crying for their mother at the slightest movement!
Before Morrigan could react the wolf pounced, knocking her to the ground its teeth snapping at her face.
"Morrigan!" A distant cry echoed through her head. Was it her cursed fate finally coming to claim her?
A piercing pain jolts through her shoulder as a shadowy fang imbeds itself into her flesh.
"Morrigan!" There it was again, clearer this time.
The hunt was on top of her now.
"MOG!" This final cry pulled Morrigan out of her nightmare and back to the real world. Her head was pounding, eyes fuzzy. She could however, make out a pair of piercing blue eyes and locks of messy red hair.
"Jupiter!" she croaked.
"Mog! Hey it's ok, you're alright." Jupiter said, some of the frantic panic leaving his eyes as he embraced her. He smelled like fresh ink.
"Mog," he said pulling away enough to allow him to see her face fully. His eyes were searching hers for a clue, any hint of what happened. "What was that? You were screaming and thrashing in your bed. Your room was going mental, and all I could see was black fog..."
Morrigan sometimes forgot Jupiter could see things others can't.
"Squall." Morrigan said in what was barely a whisper. "Squall." She tried again, this time louder although her voice still shook.
"What?" Jupiter asked, the colour draining from his face leaving him a stark white. "He was in your dreams?"
"It wasn't a dream. Or maybe it was? I don't know!" Morrigan cried. She moved in closer to Jupiter, tears streaming down her face.
"Take a deep breath Mog, you're here with me now. You're ok."
Morrigan took some deep breaths to the beat of the rain against her window.
"It felt so real Jupiter." She stated, her voice quiet. "I was walking in a forest, following a light. Then all of a sudden the light went out. The Hunt they were there..." she trailed off.
"Then what happened Mog?" Jupiter enquired gently.
"Squall appeared. H-he said it was time for a lesson. I said I didn't want him to teach me anymore, that I had made a mistake." at this Jupiter gave her a pointed look.
"He got mad, then we were back in Jackalfax. He said to come with him, I didn't move so he sent the hunt after me." Morrigan said suddenly panicked.
"Hey, look at me. Deep breaths. It's ok!" Jupiter said trying to soothe her. Her eyes were still panicked. "Mog. You need to breathe. You're shaking."
It was only when he said this that Morrigan realised that a cold sweat plastered her fringe to her forehead and she could not stop her hands from quaking.
"Jupiter it was terrifying." She sniffed.
"I know Mog, I know. But you are strong!" He said squeezing her shoulders.
Morrigan managed a faint smile.
Jupiters W pin glinted in the light cast from the lamp. Morrigan's smile was wiped off her face at the next thought that buzzed through her head."He said I didn't belong here Jupiter.. he said that everyone at the society fears me. Do they?" She asked this in a way that felt like she was pleading with him to tell her they don't.
"Mog, of course they don't, they just.. need time" Jupiter replies.
"Thank you Jupiter." Morrigan whispers.
"Any time Moggers." Jupiter whispers back.
