Unit 919 were outside the Gob once again.
Roshni Singh spots them from inside and hurries out, shaking her head.
"No, no, NO! Marina!" Roshni cries, holding her hands up in a way that says 'you stop right there, now'.
"I told you that this lot are not allowed back in here until they're at least senior scholars!" She says, deadly serious as she reaches the group. Miss Cheery throws her arms around Roshni's neck before kissing her cheek.
"Oh Rosh, don't worry so. They aren't even coming in!" Miss Cheery replies brightly. "This is just where I'm hanging out until they're get back." She adds, twirling the librarian out of her embrace. Roshni stumbles, then rights herself before she says, "You're just going to let your unit wander off alone?" She sounds like she's about to give Miss Cheery a good long lecture.
"No! They're doing a test for me."
"A test?!?!" Francis butts in. "You didn't say it was a test! We haven't prepared" he frets.
"Calm down Francis, it's just a bit of fun!" Miss Cheery soothes.
"What exactly are you getting them to do Marina?" Roshni enquires.
"They just have to find what I've hidden in a secret place..." Miss Cheery loses steam when she sees the look Roshni is giving her.
"Marina! Where is this secret place?" Roshni asks.
"I can't tell you! That ruins the fun! It's fine Rosh. They're not going to be in danger." Miss Cheery says.
"Marina, I know you and I know them. They're going to be in danger anywhere they go."
"Well yeah, but they won't be in any more than normal."
Roshni gives her a disapproving frown.
"I brought cookieeeeeeeeees!" Miss Cheery trills, shaking a tin of freshly baked cookies in her girlfriend's face. The smell finally won Roshni over as she ripped off the lid and dug her hand in, resurfacing with a cookie in tow.
Through a mouthful of chocolatey goodness, Roshni said, "fine. fine! But if anyone asks, I did not endorse this."
"Okey dokey artichokey!" Miss Cheery says with a wink. "Now, off you go." She says, turning to unit 919.
"But Miss! You haven't given us anything to go off." Anah points out.
"Hmmm, you're right Anah, I haven't." As she says this, her eyes drift towards a tall oak tree positioned across the square.
"Good luck!"
She then turns on her heel and walks through the doors of the Gob with Roshni following behind her.
"Huh." Mog grunts.
"That was helpful." Anah says sarcastically.
"Well, I think we should split into groups. Waddya think?" Asks Hawthorne.
"Good idea."
The sound of a gravelly voice makes the unit jump. Luckily it was just Cadence.
"Jeez Cadence, you need to stop doing that!" Arch shrieks, clutching his chest.
"And you need to stop whining." She retorts.
"OKAY! Everybody take a breather!" Mahir roars.
The others stare at him in utter shock.
"Sorry...." He mumbles. "But we need to get going if we want to get this done."
The rest of the group grumbles in agreement.
"Right. Francis, Mahir and Hawthorne, you're one group-"
"But I wanna be with Morrigan!" Hawthorne interrupts Thaddea with an outraged cry.
"Fine. You, Morrigan and Cadence are one group. Lam, you join Francis and Mahir. Anah and Arch, you're with me."
When she finishes, they split up into their respective groups.
"Duck!" Lambeth says suddenly. Ducking down behind a bench. An egg splats onto the pavement where Lam was just standing.
"Get going!" Miss Cheery calls, a box of eggs in her hands.
"Miss!" The group of kids cry, as more eggs come hurtling towards them.
"Stop standing around!" She calls back to them.
SPLAT!
Thaddea stands stunned as egg drips down her face and through her hair.
Miss cheery lets out a gulp that could be heard from the other side of Nevermoor.
"Come on Thaddea, let's go." Anah says. Grabbing Thaddea's arm, she wipes the goo from her friend's face.
"Leave it." She whispers. And surprisingly, Thaddea listened. She didn't blow up at Miss Cheery like the others had expected. She had simply turned and walked away.
Morrigan had noticed that Anah and Thaddea had been getting closer over the last few weeks, but she didn't think they were so close.
