Chapter 15: Promise

Demi's POV

" So Joe, what would you like to do? " I ask as Joe and I get in Kate's car out in the treatment center's parking lot. 

" I don't know what is there is to in this town, so maybe we can just drive around and see if there's anything cool. " He says putting on his seat-belt and turning the car on, I do the same with my seat-belt. 

" Sounds good to me. " I say with a smile unable to keep from staring at him, he grins back before pulling out of the parking spot and driving away from the treatment center. He grabs my hand during the drive keeping my smile on my face. Its funny how I've been here for a month and the only outside experiences here were just going out on hikes, its nice to actually see people and civilization. This place is pretty as well, you can see the beach and water from the road so its a beautiful view. That's when I get the idea of what we can do today since the sun is hiding behind clouds and its not too hot.

" Lets go to the beach and sit on the boardwalk. " I say pointing down to one I see with a bunch of boats tied up to it. 

" Yeah, that sounds fun. " Joe says smiling starting to drive to where I pointed, when we get there, we park the car and lock it behind us. Joe grabs my hand and we start to walk down to the boardwalk that isn't busy at all today, probably since its not the warmest of all days. Its around seventy degrees out so it feels just perfect to me. 

We go to the end of the boardwalk where there isn't many boats and take off our shoes and socks so we don't get them wet. Joe and I roll up our pant sleeves a little and then sit down and stick our feet into the water.

" This is cool, good idea. The water is beautiful." Joe says putting his hand on top of mine that's helping me lean back against the boardwalk's floor.

" Yeah it is, I wish we had a beach back home. " I say thinking it would be nice, all we have is a lake, and its cold most of the year.

" Yeah that would be so cool, I grew up around the beach. It was great, specially when my parents wanted to keep my brothers and I busy. It was fun. " He says as if he were remembering good memories. 

" Well maybe one day, we can move out to a place like this and keep our little kids entertained. " I say thinking of little Joes running around the beach, the image brings a grin to my face.

" That would be amazing, we could teach them how to surf and...we would just have fun. " Joe says defiantly happy about the thought. 

" Ha ha, you mean you would teach them how to surf right? " I ask chuckling knowing there's no way that I'd ever be able to stand on a board in the water. 

" Ha ha i'm ok with that...Demi? " He says all smiles and then gets real serious.

" Yeah? " I ask wondering whats on his mind, I look over at him so he knows I'm listening.

" Do you really want to have kids someday with me? " He asks looking at me with deep eyes, this question confuses me a little.

" Who else would I have my kids with? You're the only one who I would want to have a future with. " I say hoping he feels the same way and that this doesn't back fire on me. 

" Good, cause you're the only woman that I want to be the mother of my children. " He says giving me a warm smile.

" Good, cause i'm planning on it. " I say leaning in and kissing his lips softly, the thought of a future together puts me in a even better mood.

" I've always wanted a little boy. " He says smiling looking off into the water, I think of Joe with a little baby boy in his arms. The thought is sweet and lets me know that I won't let anything come between his dream to have that baby.

" I would teach him how to play baseball and soccer, take him to any game he wants, buy him all the toys he wants. Help him with girl problems when he's older. " He says going off into a trance, I had no idea that Joe always wanted this to happen.

" You would be a great father Joe. " I respond knowing its true, Joe would be the best.

" You really think so? " He asks smiling and looking back over at me.

" I really do. " I say making his smile grow even wider, I squeeze his hand knowing that someday its gonna be true. We'll have a family and just live life happily. It will be great. 

" Demi, I can't promise you cars, money, expensive clothing or fancy gadgets. Maybe one day I can, but for right now, I can promise you this. When you're sick, I'll be your doctor. When you're sad, I'll be your comic. When you need help, I'll be your superhero. And when you just need love, I'll just be me cause I know that's the best thing I can do." He says making my breathing stop, the intensity of his words overwhelm me. Each time he talks, the more amazing he gets. 

" Joe...thank you. You're the most amazing man in the world. " I say throwing my arms around his neck and pulling him close to me, his hands grasp around me making me feel like the only woman in the world. I'll never encounter anyone better than Joe.

" Joe, you're always going to be mine. I won't share you with anyone else. " I say knowing that I won't let anyone else come between the two of us. 

" Good cause you're all I want. " He whispers into my ear, the passion his voice hold's only makes our words more true. He kisses the top of my head and sends the little butterflies I get every time he makes contact with me, even after all this time.

After sitting at the boardwalk for an hour, we walk back down hand in hand to the beach where not a lot of people are at. The water looks beautifully gorgeous, how the water shines from the sun and crashes against the rocks. Everything seems perfect. 

Joe lets go of my hand and starts to back up backwards with a mischievous grin on his face, I raise my eyebrows waiting for an explanation. 

" I'll give you a five second head start to run away before I get you. " He says looking as if he's trying not to laugh.

" Well what if I want you to catch me? " I say putting my arms up and backing up a few steps at a time, this comment makes him smile.

" Five, four, three, two, one. " He says quickly before taking off after me, I start to run fast down the side of the beach knowing I won't be able to stay away from him to much longer. When I look behind me, he's right there only a few feet away. When he gets to me, he playfully attacks me to the ground. By the time we're on the ground laying next to each other, we're rolling over laughing. 

When we catch our breath from laughing so hard a minute later, he looks over at me and says " You sound like you did on our first date, when I made you laugh in the photo booth. " 

I look at him in amazement thinking that the fact he remembers that is unbelievable, I then respond with " You remember exactly how I laughed that night? " 

" Of course, I only hear it every once and a while. It's the cutest laugh ever. " He says starting to tickle me with his hands making me laugh just as loud again. When he pulls back he says, " See. "

I smile at him and see his beautiful eyes stare at me with all interest. Maybe I was wrong before, I never understood why he picked me. Why he showed me his true self. I always thought he was crazy for finding interest in me, I didn't understand why he loved me. I didn't think he really did love me, but today, I know he truly loves me and I truly love him.
