I walked into the room and the conversation stopped. Everybody turned to look at me. I saw tears welling in my mothers eyes.
"Spencer oh my god," Emily smiled and Alison, who had her arm around Emily, nodded in agreement.
"You look incredible!" My mum said, holding up her phone to take a photo of me. I smiled and then walked over to the mirror. In my reflection was a pale girl with long, loosely curled brown hair. She was wearing a pristine white, strapless dress. It was fitted at the top and it was loose fitting and floaty around her knees with a long trail at the back. Her make up was done flawlessly and she had a veil decorated with beautiful silver crystals. I smiled."Are you ready to do this?" My father smiled holding his arm out for me as my mother and a couple of her friends left the room to go out into the beautiful field where me and Toby were going to get married. I nodded and linked my arm in his.
I walked out of the room where I had got ready and into the field when I heard the music start. The sun beamed down on me as I walked. Poppy was a few steps in front of me throwing pale pink rose petals into the Isle. Toby turned around to see me and I saw his beautiful blue eyes, glistening in the sun, well up with tears. Embarrassed, he turned around and brushed down his black suit. I saw his shoulders rise and fall as he took a few deep breaths. I stood next to him and he took both of my hands.
"You're beautiful," he mouthed and a smile spread across my face. When it was time for our vows I was nervous. I had really struggled to write mine and I wasn't sure if Toby had taken them seriously. It was my turn first, everyone's eyes were on me.
"At first, I had no idea what to say to you in my vows." I said, and it was true, "I didn't know how to express the way I felt about you. But then I found a story online and I knew it was the perfect way to tell you how I feel. Ledgend has it that Zeus created all humans with two heads, four arms, and four legs. But, fearing their strength, he split them in half condemning them to live their lives apart. Few would ever find the other half of themselves. Well I found my other half Toby. I found you." I reached out and squeezed his hand."Toby?" The vicar turned to him and nodded. Caleb tried to hand him a piece of paper, his notes I think, but Toby shook his head and looked into my eyes.
"Growing up I thought that love was this perfect thing. I thought that love was boxes of chocolates and red roses, always knowing what to say and dates on Saturday nights. Expensive gifts in small boxes and always saying the right thing at the right time. I thought that true love meant the perfect story." He smiled at me,
"Now that I'm older I know that isn't true. Love is ugly snapchats and midnight phone calls and pouring your heart out at 4am when you should be sleeping. Love is saying all the wrong things at all the wrong moments and being honest even though though it can hurt sometimes. Love is sarcasm and bed head and never running out of things to talk about. It's being comfortable and it's being safe, it's the best damn feeling in the world and its nothing like any storybook you've ever read. It's so perfectly imperfect. It's me and it's you Spencer. That's true love."He reached up to wipe a tear from my cheek and only then did I realise that I'd been crying. Every muscle in my body wanted to hold him and kiss him and never let him go.
After we had exchanged rings and and said all that we needed to say, the vicar said those words that I had been wanting to hear since the day that I first kissed Toby.
"I now pronounce you man and wife," he said, "you may kiss the bride,"And Toby leaned in and kissed me. Softly, but passionately and I relaxed in his warm muscular arms.
