"And they all lived happily ever after. The end." I closed the book and placed it on the table next to me. Toby was taking poppy to a party so the baby and I had the house to ourselves. I stroked the growing bump on my stomach, the only sound, the fire crackling in the corner of the room. I enjoyed reading to the baby when nobody else was home.
"Did you like that?" I said quietly, "Cinderella was one of my favourite fairy tales. Cinderella had a hard life but then Prince Charming fell in love with Cinderella and she fell in love with him. It shows that there's always hope." I paused, my eyes fixed on my stomach.
"Almost like how I fell in love with your daddy and he made my life so much better. Falling in love with your daddy gave me hope. Except, falling in love with your daddy wasn't like falling at all. It was like walking into a house and suddenly knowing you're home."
As if in reply I felt a soft tap on the inside of my stomach. A smile crept across my lips. Just then I heard a key in the front door and poppy burst in waving her party bag in the air and grinning.
"Toby, the baby kicking again!" I sat up straight on the sofa and Toby ran over and placed his hands on my bump. His crystal blue eyes lit up when he felt our baby kicking and his mouth opened slightly.
"Amazing." He said, "Absolutely amazing."
