AND I DO NOT OWN WINGS OF FIRE
(Y/n) pov
"Winter?"
"Hailstorm!"
The two Icewing brothers stood facing each other, one was in disbelief, while the other was plain confused.
"What happened to the throne room? And what have they been feeding you that you've gotten so big?" Hailstorm asked, Winter of course had no answers, neither did I and the rest of the dragonets who just stood in shock, almost as if all our brains were collectively hallucinating.
"Have you seen (Y/n), is she ok?" Surprise flashed on my face when he brought up my name, "Wait no, I have to find Queen Scarlet, I'm completely loyal to-"
Hailstorm had cut off his own sentence when he began shrieking about his scales being a completely different color than he remembered. Winter desperately tried reminding his brother that he was an Icewing prince but nothing soothed Hailstorm's frantic questions.
A blur of black scales flashed in front of Hailstorm and Winter, knocking him off his talons and onto the fire pit, but the worst part was seeing the fast motions of the ginormous Nightwing swinging their powerful straight at Kinkajou, it was too fast for me to stop. Kinkajou's small frame flew to the nearest tree with a screech, the harsh collision making her scales turn into a ghostly white.
I reacted first, adrenaline making me forget about the aching pain in my burn wounds.
I couldn't stop it, not with the anger flooding through my veins. I leaped at the Nightwing with my wings outstretched but he was fast to dodge my attack, Moon used the brief moment of him letting his guard down to blow flames at his vulnerable neck, spreading my talons I pictured one of the bonfire logs that was still hot with fire using my magic to fling it right at our attacker. He let out a roar of pain but it seemed to not affect him much when he leapt towards Moon, shoving her on the ground below him, to my and probably everyone else's surprise Winter charged at the dragon, getting him off Moon.
He shot a powerful burst of fire at Winter, who narrowly dodged it, instead of faltering Winter countered the Nightwings flames with deadly frostbreath. The icy substance landed on the Nightwings eyes, hardening and turning into spikey icicles. Expecting the Nightwing to continue the fight I braced myself but all he did was spread his wings and awkwardly take flight.
I looked down, heaving as I let my tired and injured wing droop to the floor. All these unwanted confrontations were really taking a toll on my already injured body. I turned my gaze upwards, spotting Moon and Winter crouching over Kinkajou.
"I can't hear her," Moon worriedly said, shaking Kinkajou's pale body, "I can't hear anything from her mind at all. Please be alright, Kinkajou."
The last part made something in my heart ache, not only for my injured friend but for Moon.
'Maybe I could wake her with my magic.' I was ready to step forward but something stopped me from continuing.
"Dont do it."
'But she's my friend, I should help her.' I said fiercely to the echo in my mind.
"Don't waste your strength, little guppy. She'll wake eventually, and if she doesn't that is not your burden. Remember, loss builds strength."
He was right, I didn't want to get attached to a dragon that could turn on me, plus doing something to help a Nightwing would be very frowned upon back home, but why did I still feel slightly guilty?
"Weve got to her out of here, if random dragons are attacking us, Scarlet could be next," Winter said, and as much as I hated to admit the arrogant prince was right.
