"You know, he was kind of cute." Penny said as we walked out of my house. I just rolled my eyes. There was only one person she could be talking about: stupid Jack. Everybody's favorite guy. I groaned slightly before walking onto campus. As if dealing with Jack wasn't bad enough, now I have to deal with highschool ridicule too. Great. I just kept my head down all day and didn't say anything that I didn't have to. Finally school was over and I could just go home.
"Dad?" I called out as I walked in and Jack appeared in the kitchen doorway.
"There's nobody here but you and me, princess." I took a shaky breath and tried to ignore him. But he just wouldn't shut up. "You know, I have to say, I love your new look. You're finally accepting who you are. Daddy's little princess."
"Stop it Jack." I said quietly.
"Oh? And what if I don't? You gonna get Daddy to come get rid of me? Have him protect you like always?" He questioned mockingly.
"I don't need my dad to protect me. I'm a hunter. I can protect myself." I said, trying to convince him and myself. Jack scoffed.
"Please. You aren't a hunter, you're a burden. You're holding them back and you know it. There are millions of cases that they didn't take because of you." He said and he just kept talking before I lost it.
"Shut up!" I screamed before running up the stairs and slamming my door behind me. I ripped off Penny's stupid outfit and the tears began to stream down my face, making the makeup run. I could honestly have cared less at that moment. I pulled on an old pair of faded comfy jeans and an old baggy sweater I had found in Walmart one time. I fell onto my bed and stared miserably at the ceiling. What if... what if Jack, was right about me?
