Dot had walked away. Again. She kept doing that. It's always the same. Thomas didn't know what went wrong every time.
She needed help, he provided, she ignores him until she needs help again.
"Dorothy Blosser you come back here." Thomas spoke angrily. She stopped in her tracks.
"What did you say to me?" She asked venomously. Thomas almost stood down, but something kept him going.
"You heard me. Come back." She was taken aback by his tone of voice. "You always run away from anyone that wants to be nice to you. I told you to come back here." He said. She turned around to face him. Her face was red, "Why won't you let me love you?" He asked angrily, "Every time we get even close to being slightly intimate you blow up at me! More than half the time it's cause of what someone else would think!" She turned around again, "I'm not finished with you!" He shouted. She turned back towards him.
"What do you want from me?" She asked tearfully. He grabbed her shoulders.
"I want to know how you feel. I want to know what's going on inside your head. Tell me how you feel." He said.
"Right now?" She asked, "Right now I feel hatred towards you. And I don't want to." She walked away from him but stopped when she heard the sound of clapping.
"Attention everyone, I think we have just found Miss Amileen and Mr Harvey for the film-" Dot interrupted her.
"Do you know who I am?" She asked.
"Yes! You're the lucky duck that gets to play Amileen in-" she was interrupted again.
"I wrote Amileen! I created her!" She said hopelessly, "Why would I play her?" Dot shook her head and stormed away. Thomas reached out to touch her but she slipped away. The crowd got closer to him and congratulated him on everything.
"Get out of my way!" He said loudly, "I need to speak to her!" This continued on for quite a while.
Meanwhile Dot frantically searched for Amber.
"Amber!" She yelled finding her, "I need my car key. I remember where my car is, it's not far from here!" Dot said. Amber's eyes grew wide.
"Thomas still has your key, and mine. Sorry." She said. Dot groaned and planted her face in her hands, "What is it?" Amber asked.
"Oh, you know, Thomas just yelled at me, no, big deal, right?" Dot sat down on the curb.
"Yelled? What did he say?" Amber asked sitting next to her.
"Just that I'm hard to love, and I don't let anyone in." Dot said, "And the worst part is that it's true."
"Then fix it. Swallow your pride and tell him how you feel." Amber said, "Simple solution to a not so simple problem."
"Simple?!" Dot asked, "What if I told you to swallow your pride and go talk to your dad? You wouldn't be able to do it! You would be admitting you need him after all these years!"
"That's different." Amber said standing up, "I don't need my dad. But you do need Thomas." Amber walked away.
Dot stifled a sob. She did need Thomas. Just like she needed Amber. Now she had neither. She stood slowly.
"I know what I need to do." She knew she could never tell him face to face, so she wrote him a note.
Thomas,
She started. She scribbled it out. Too informal.
Dearest Thomas,
I could never tell you face to face because you were right. I'm afraid to let anyone in, and I'm terrified to let anyone love me.
But don't take it personally. It's not just you. Really Amber is the only person that I love and that I let love me back.
The truth is, I love you, more than I wanted to.That last sentence was harder to write than an entire novel.
Thomas, I want to know how to let you love me. Please, meet me at For Goodness Cake Tea Room at 12 o'clock tomorrow. Maybe there we can talk.

Dorothy BlosserDot read over the letter at least a dozen times before deciding it was good enough. She placed it under the windshield wiper on his car and decided on finding and talking to Amber.
"Amber?" She called into Amber's apartment.
"What do you want, Dot?" She asked sadly.
"I wanted to apologize..." Dot said quietly, "I know how you feel about your Dad and I'm sorry. I shouldn't have compared my stupid boy problems to your useless dad." She said walking farther into the house. Suddenly Amber can running around the corner and slammed into Dot.
"Of course I forgive you!" She said. Dot smiled and have her a hug, "Now, what are you gonna do about Thomas?" Dot smiled.
"I wrote him a letter!" She said happily.
"A letter?" Amber asked. Dot nodded.
"We both know my anxiety won't let me talk to him, so I thought a letter would be good!" Amber took Dot's hand and sighed.
"Honey, letters are pretty impersonal... Like sending an email, or text to him. What he wants is you talking to him. Physically verbalizing what is going on in your head it him. Otherwise it doesn't count." Dot's face fell.
"But I've already put it where he would see it. It's on his windscreen." She started panicking, "How are we gonna get it back? I can't breathe." Amber chuckled at her poor introverted friend.
"Go talk to him." She said, "It's the only way." Dot nodded slowly.
"Might as well call him first." She dialed the number she didn't know she knew so well.
"Ah, Dot. I just got your letter-" she hung up quickly.
"No time to loose. Gotta run." She said quickly as she ran out of the apartment building and down the road.
She had made it back to the film lot where Thomas stood beside his car.
"Well, look who finally got here." He said. She smiled a little and ran the distance between them. She leapt into his arms and kissed him.
"Was the letter ok?" She asked. Thomas chuckled.
"Yes, I suppose it'll do."
Tuh duuuuh.
