Chapter Five - What She Deserves

"I'll pick you up later." Jeonghan smiled as he gave Haneul's bag to her. Soon he walked away.

"I can just go home by myself!" Haneul replied.

"Pick you up at 5!" Jeonghan replied.

All she could do was sigh and walk to her classroom. Jeonghan is unstoppable when it comes to things like this. I will protect you and make you happy, is his words to Haneul.

It was another day at school. Finally exams are done and now they're waiting for the ranking again. Haneul was nervous. She knew she had to stay on top to keep her scholarship. If her rank goes down to 5 and up, she'll be kicked out.

"Students of Sky High." A voice echoed through the hallway. "Please come to the gymnasium right now."

Students groaned but Haneul obeyed. She went straight to the place after it was announced. When she arrived, it was still empty but there were chairs so she took the chance to sit in the front row.

When everyone was there, the principal walked in front of them with a mic. "Okay students of Sky High. This is an announcement about," she started.

"About the upcoming dance."

Students cheered except for her. Haneul just smiled at her schoolmates. She didn't want to be such a bitter girl in front of them.

"It will be held this Friday. Students must be here at 7 pm or so."

School dance was not her thing. It's just some kind of cheesy program like prom. Besides, no one would ask her with such thing.

"Haneul," someone called. She turned around only to see Mingyu, the school's not so nerd. "will you be my date?"

So straight forward, she thought.

"Yieeeeee." Her schoolmates near her teased the two.

"I umm. I'm sorry but I'm not going to the dance."

"Ooooohhhh." They teased again. Mingyu just scratched his head.

"Okay keep quiet please." The principal said. "And Lee Haneul, you need to be there for you will crown the dance queen. The last dance queen dropped out of school and according to the rules, the student who ranked first will be the replacement. And it will air live on channel 17. People are expecting you to be there."

But why? She asked herself.

Mingyu's straight lips turned into a smile. "So?" He asked Haneul.

"Even if I will go, I'm not having a date. I'm really sorry." Haneul smiled apologetically.

"Why don't you want to go?"

"Because! Girls are supposed to wear dresses and heels and it's cheesy like prom! Jeonghan, you clearly know that I don't like things related to that." Haneul whined. "And I don't want to have a date."

"Oh come on Haneul!" Jeonghan said. "You have to go. Maybe it's part of the scholarship?"

"I don't know Jeonghan. I will go but," she started. "I'm not having a date. Heck, I don't even have anything to wear!"

"Let's make it this way. I'll go with you, like I'll be your date." Jeonghan said looking at her.

"But," she reasoned. "someone already asked me and I rejected him saying I don't want to have a date. What will he say if he sees us together?"
