VIENNA'S BREATHS GREW SHALLOW AS SHE TAPPED HER FOOT ANXIOUSLY AGAINST THE GROUND.

Michael sat next to her in the cold, desolate hospital waiting room. VIenna hated hospitals, because of her father's death and her mother constantly being in and out of the hospital for the last five years.

"Cassie will be okay." Michael mumbles, practically reading the girl's mind.

"I wasn't worried."

"Yeah you were." He says. "You don't have to lie. I'm nervous too."

She turns her shoulders to look at him. His eyes meet hers instantly. "You were?"

"Of course. Cassie's my friend, and I was really scared before Briggs told us everything is okay."

Vienna nods, going silent. She turns away from him, focusing her eyes on the old, carpeted floor underneath her favorite Converse.

"Hey, what's wrong?"

"I'm alright. Just tired."

"Vienna, no more hiding from me, okay? Remember what we talked about this morning?"

A slight smile pulls at her lips as she recalls the words she and Michael had exchanged, hardly believing that their mutual confession was a mere ten hours ago. "Right."

"Right. So what's on your mind?"

"I hate hospitals." She says quietly.

"I'm sorry, Vienna." He spoke softly.

"It's okay. It's stupid anyway, especially since nothing is even wrong with Cassie. She's fine."

"It's not stupid though. It's understandable, given what you've been through." Michael was always so understanding, and that is why Vienna loves him so much, but that is also why she is so scared to tell him how she feels sometimes. She doesn't want to overwhelm him with the constant spinning of her mind.

"I wish I didn't think like this-"

"Don't finish that sentence, Vienna, please." He lowers his voice. "You cannot change the way you think, because if you did, you might not even be here."

"At the hospital?"

"No. In this program. With me."

Vienna nods. "I guess you're right. If I thought any differently, maybe I wouldn't have fallen for you." She smiles jokingly.
