DARK, BLACK COFFEE SWOOSHED AROUND JUDD'S MUG AS HE TAKES IT CAREFULLY INTO HIS HANDS.

It was pretty early in the morning, and VIenna and Judd were the only ones awake. Vienna poured a bit of coffee into her mug. She had a rough sleep the previous night, the phone call with her brother and mother had kept her tossing and turning all night. She barely got three hours of sleep.

"Why are you up so early?" Judd asks curiously as Vienna puts a bit of milk into her coffee before sitting opposite him at the dining table.

"Couldn't sleep." She says quietly, her eyes focusing on the mug at first before she looks up to study the old man's face. His hair was greying, but his kind eyes held a familiar concern in them. When Vienna first arrived at the program, she thought that he was closed off, but it turns out that he does in fact have a soft spot too.

"Is that all?" Judd presses.

"What do you mean?"

"It just looks like something's on your mind." He says carefully. He knew Vienna, and he knew that she doesn't talk about her feelings often. She hates feeling like a burden, especially after the whole Locke case.

Vienna sighs. Judd was very easy to talk to, and she couldn't seem to keep these kinds of things from him. "Fine. I talked to my mom last night. Well, only for like thirty seconds. But...I, Ronan, he says she's getting bad again."

Judd's eyes soften. "I'm so sorry. Do you want to visit home? You haven't gone home since Christmas. If you want, I can talk to Briggs and we can arrange for it."

Vienna shook her head. "No, I'd rather stay here. I love my family, but I want to stay here, at least until this case is over."

"But you all aren't even authorized to work the case. Why stay?"

"I know. We're not allowed to do anything." Her voice had an edge to it that she was not expecting. "I still want to be here though. In case something happens."

Judd nods. "Is this because of what happened with Locke?"

"No." Vienna snaps. "Why does everyone always think that she's all I think about?" She asks angrily. "Am I really that pathetic?"

"Vienna, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. I just...I want you to know that it's okay to take a break, to go visit your family."

Vienna shook her head. "Going home isn't the break you think it is for me. It's my mom. I love her, and I love Ronan. But it's so hard to go home, to be in that house with them. I've been gone for so long that I don't think I'd be able to just go home like I'd been there the whole time. It's fine to go back for Christmas or Thanksgiving, but it's not the same. Not without him, without my dad." She finishes her sentence quietly.
