Groundwire <3 (Can be read either platonic or romantic)

Pixal stood in the corner of the hall, shifting her footing awkwardly as she stared into her glass. The music was loud, the lights in the otherwise dark room were bright, and there were far too many people.
While she was technically programmed to deal with busy events, she would much prefer to be in her lab, tinkering on her suit, instead of attending a party she was only invited to because her teammates refused to exclude her.
The sentiment was nice, but fell a little flat when you considered how she was by herself, watching them all mingling with the other guests without a care in the world.
She'd tried to make small talk, but no one seemed interested in the second Samurai X when the fabled Ninja were in the building. And when she did manage to make conversation, they seemed unable to figure out she wasn't a glorified search engine or errand runner.
One lady even had the gall to ask if she was hireable, as if everyone had forgotten she hadn't been an assistant for years. Luckily Lloyd overheard it and pulled the woman's attention away from Pixal, who promptly grabbed a drink and fled to the corner where she had been standing for about ten minutes now.
The alcohol- which she hadn't even drank- wouldn't even affect her anyway, she just grabbed it so she could at least pretend she wasn't standing around doing nothing.
She probably still looked like that, just with a glass to nurse.
So to say Pixal wasn't having a very good time would be a little bit of an understatement.
She sighed as Jay pulled Nya onto the dance floor, feeling a small inkling of jealousy.
When she'd heard about the event they were going to, she had initially been excited.
The last suit and tie event she'd been to was when her father introduced her to the public, but that was years ago now, and she hadn't done much, just answered questions and got looked at.
A little like right now.
She wasn't much interested in socialising with strangers, and she didn't need to try any of the food- which she did anyway. The only thing Pixal really wanted to do tonight was dance.
She was fascinated by dancing, and loved looking at the way peoples' bodies would respond to the music around them. It was beautiful to her, from slow, graceful waltzing, to messy, loud head-banging.
She'd hoped to ask Zane to dance with her, but her fellow nindroid was nowhere to be seen, and she didn't want to seek him out just to make a silly request like that.
Besides, her heels made her taller than Zane, and she was worried it would make them look ridiculous in front of the other guests. She'd hate to embarrass Zane like that.
So she'd resigned herself to half-leaning on the wall, swirling around the liquid in her cup until the Ninja were ready to leave.
A little disappointing, but she could get over it.
She glanced up, catching Cole's eyes from across the room. He was at the buffet table, helping themselves to the mini cake squares, when he spotted her.
He swallowed whatever was in their mouth, before waving at Pixal. She waved back, trying to seem casual, but clearly failed as he began walking over.
They gave her a grin, sliding up to her side.
"Hey Pix," He chirped, "How are you?"
"Hello Cole, I am alright," She responded, giving them a small smile.
