Danny's POV

I knocked on the door of the student house, praying that Lena would answer. As soon as she'd explained what had happened I'd called my manager. He'd got me, Glen and Mark on a plane to London and now the three of us stood on the doorstep of the small house. It had only taken a couple of hours.

I stepped back, looking at the empty windows for any signs of life. I leaned down and opened the letter box. "Lena?" I called. "It's me. Can you let me in?" I asked. I couldn't see anything inside, nor could I hear anything.

"Maybe she's not here." Mark stated. I shook my head.

"She must be." I knocked again. "Lena!"

I heard a sound inside the house. The click of a lock sounded and I heard a bolt slide. The door opened and Lena stood before me. She looked terrible.

Her cheeks were pink and swollen, her skin pale and without life. She looked so empty, so sad. Her eyes were the thing that shocked me the most. They were bloodshot, raw and red. The twinkle that I had loved so much had gone, disappeared completely and the luminous green orbs which had drawn me in were now dark and lifeless.

I walked through the door and embraced her as tightly as I could, taking her in my arms, letting her know she was safe. I kissed the top of her head and whispered to her. "Hey it's ok, you're gonna be alright." She stayed silent for a moment, then cracked.

Her thin arms wrapped around me, and she buried her head in my chest as though she was trying to hide. Her body was racked with sobs and I didn't care that her tears were staining my favourite shirt. I guided Lena to the sofa, sitting her down gently. Mark and Glen plopped our bags down on the floor, closing the door. I was determined to stay until Lena was fixed.

"Do you wanna talk?" I asked her. She shook her head, so I just wrapped my arms back around her and let her sob into my shoulder.

An hour later, Lena's tears had run dry, she sniffed and looked up at me. "Sorry." She murmured, her voice raspy. I smiled.

"You've nothing to be sorry for." I replied, running my hands through her tangled hair gently. She hugged me tightly, her eyes squeezed shut. Mark and Glen were sat in the armchairs, silent the whole time. I looked up at Mark and he smiled sympathetically, nodding. Lena finally detached herself from me and breathed deeply.

"They're gone." She stated simply, her voice breaking. Glen walked into the kitchen and got her a glass of water. She thanked him and drank gladly. I wound my arm around her waist and squeezed her.

"You're gonna be ok Lena, you've got us." I said. Lena nodded.

Mark leaned forward. "Has anyone called you?" He asked, his voice tender. "Police? Doctors?" Lena nodded.

"I couldn't answer it." She said, her voice shaky. "I couldn't talk to anyone." Mark nodded.

"It's ok." He said. "You do things at your own pace."

Over the next couple of hours, we made calls to the police for Lena. They wanted to speak to her, but she was still in shock. They transferred us to a doctor.

"Bring her to the hospital and we can give her something." He said. "She needs to identify the bodies."

If Lena stayed in the state she was now, I doubted she'd be able to leave the house, let alone identify anyone. I knelt before her and explained.

"Lena." I started. "The police want you to go to the hospital. Can you do that?" She looked me in the eye, except she wasn't looking at me, she was looking through me. After a few seconds, she nodded. I grasped her hand gently and stroked her palm with my thumb.
