Danny's POV
It was half nine in the morning, and I stood at the kitchen counter, staring at the small orange thing that swam around in the bowl. His name was George.
I was determined to prove to Cat and Lena that I could take care of him, so I'd woken up extra early to feed him and buy some stuff from the pet shop. I was glad the woman at the counter knew what she was doing. I'd bought some special blue gravel for him, a little green plant, a pot of food and a cute little castle. I think I'd done everything right.
As I was making myself a slice of toast -yes, toast, I can make it- Lena padded downstairs, wearing her Garfield pyjamas. She looked cute, her hair was messed up and wavy, her fluffy orange slippers sticking to the wooden floor with every step, and her orange and white shorts covered in fat little cats. "Morning." I said, munching the toast. "Want anything to eat?" Lena raised an eyebrow.
"You? Cooking?" She laughed. "Anyway, why are you up so early?"
"Oh, I was feeding George, what about you?" Lena sighed.
"Back at lectures today." She moaned. "Wait- you were feeding George?!" She questioned incredulously, checking the fish bowl quickly and letting out a sigh of relief. I nodded, grinning.
"So, when does class start?" I asked. Lena sat down.
"Eleven." She answered. "Got Latin first, then art tomorrow before history, three free days, then art again, then history again."
"Wow, good luck!" I exclaimed. "Latin?" Lena nodded.
"Yeah, I have to do it if I wanna get my Ancient History and Egyptology degree." She replied.
"Blimey!" I passed her a slice of toast and she ate quickly.
"I know," She said. "I'm thinking of taking a gap year, you know, just to do what I want." I nodded.
"Yeah, you could come on tour with us for a while!" I suggested. Lena laughed, finishing her toast.
"Ha!" She cried. "If you'd have said that six weeks ago I would've had a heart attack, then ripped your arm off!" I smiled.
"Well, the offer's open." I let it hang in the air for a second, then watched George swim around his bowl as Lena went upstairs to change. She'd be a while.
While I was waiting, Cat came downstairs, fully dressed and carrying her large ballet bag. God, that girl was committed! "Hey Danny!" She said rapidly, grabbing a slice of toast which I had entirely intended to eat, then pouring some orange juice into a plastic cup with a lid. I nodded to her, then she rushed out of the door. "Bye!" She cried, closing the door with a click.
Lena was back again, dressed this time. She wore my beige t-shirt, a pair of dark jeggings, a leather jacket and a pair of Converse. She carried a large black bag slung over her shoulder. "I'm back." She stated, grabbing a glass of cranberry juice -she didn't like orange- as I made more toast.
"Hey, did Lea come back last night?" I asked. I hadn't seen or heard her return. Lena shook her head.
"She texted me saying that she was staying at Ridley's 'til the morning." She replied. "Apparently they're getting 'serious'" I smirked.
"I take it they're attached at the hip?" Lena nodded.
"Yup." She finished her juice and walked to the door, chucking me a set of spare keys. "They're for if you wanna go out anywhere today, I don't think you'll wanna be stuck in here alone all day." She said. I smiled.
"I've got George!" I answered, walking over to her and wrapping my arms around her waist. I got that electric feeling again. It was addictive. Lena laughed.
