What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer
O what peace we often forfeit
O what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer
I will be the first to admit, I worry constantly. Mostly about school, and my future. As humans, we worry. About school, work, family, friends... The list goes on. But worry is a sin. God says "do not worry", and it's hard not to. But when we worry, we say "God I can't trust you. You aren't doing this correctly, so I need to take over." Or, the way I see it, "God, I know you are powerful, but you can't handle this. I need to bear this in my own." And that is, in a sense pride. We think we can handle it, but the God who created the universe can't! We need to pray, and remember that Jesus is there, only he understands our worries and can comfort us. Only he can truly help us.
He states in Matthew 6:25-34 that he cares so much about even the grass in the field. And we are worth so much more than that. So if he cares greatly for the grass, just think how much more he cares for us. As he asks "can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" Matthew 6:27. None of us can. Worrying will not ever help us. So as 1 Peter 5:7 states, "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."
