I stared at myself in the mirror. My eyes ran over my body, I felt numb. Even though I was looking forward to Brett taking me to the winter formal, I didn't think I looked the part. Brett is bound to look absolutely amazing. He always does. I sighed as I turned around, seeing my mom standing in the doorway.

"Going somewhere nice?" She asked. I found it hard to figure out whether she was drunk or not nowadays.

"Yeah, it's my winter formal." I reminded her, she smiled devilishly and looked over me. I felt intimidated when she looked me up and down, I just didn't know what was going to come out of her mouth.

"Have a nice time." She said before she turned around and left my bedroom leaving me standing in shock. Was she nice to me?

"Mom?" I called, she reappeared at the door, a smile never leaving her lips. "Are you okay?"

"Fine thanks love," She answered before she left again. My phone ringing pulled me out of my thoughts. I rushed over to my bed and answered it without looking at the caller ID. Only one person calls me now, and that's Brett. I lost Annie and Casey, I don't even hate Annie any more.

"Yo," I answered.

"Hey beautiful. You ready?" Brett asked. I could hear his mom in the background telling him to out me on loud speaker. I could imagine Brett shooing her off.

"You can't just call me beautiful and expect me to forgive you, you know that right?" I asked, a blush creeping onto my cheeks. I could hear Mrs Talbot laughing quietly.

"See, I told you she's not going to fall for that Brett.." She whispered. I guess she didn't know I could hear her.

"Mom, go away." Brett whispered. I put my hand to my mouth, stifling a laugh.

"Leave your mom alone wolf boy, or I'll put you in a kennel." I joked. I heard Brett growl slightly.

"Oh Brett, it's a joke, not a dick. Don't take it so hard." Mrs Talbot answered making me choke on air. I could only imagine Brett's face right now.

"MOM!" Brett scolded. I burst into laughter after I recovered from my coughing fit.

"Hattie likes my humour." Mrs Talbot pointed out.

"Mom... stop." Brett warned, "Right, on that note, I'm coming to get you."

"O-k-kaaayyy-" I breathed through my laughter. I heard the phone go dead and I continued laughing as I picked up my clutch bag and left my bed room. I was careful not to fall down the stairs in my heels.

Hearing Brett's voice has made me excited. I don't care if I don't look good, he doesn't care and I know that. I want to forgive him, but I also want to have a little bit of fun. I heard a knock at the door, I smiled as I looked down at myself. I ran a hand down my tummy and took a deep breath.

Let's do this.

I felt my breath hitch in my throat as my hand clasped around the cool metal of the door handle. In one swift motion I pulled it down and swung the door open. Brett stood with one arm outstretched and leaning against the door. I almost fainted at the sight. He was in a black suit, immediately I stepped forward and straightened out his tie and collar.

"Thanks," He breathed. I smiled slightly as I looked up at him.

"You two look cosy." My mom's voice came from behind me, making me jump.

"Hi, Ms Jones." Brett answered as I stepped to the side. Mom looked disaprovingly at Brett before her eyes fell on me.

"What happened to Jacob?" She asked. I couldn't help but roll my eyes as my heart pounded against my chest.
