"Are we almost there?" I asked pausing on the steps to catch my breath. My voice echoed through the walls of the abandoned hotel that was by the beach. I turned my flashlight to look up at him and he turned towards me.
"Yes," Brett says smiling down at me. "One more flight of stairs." He says and begins walking up the steps again.
"Brett, why are we even here? It's not even daylight out." I said beginning to slowly climb the stairs again.
"Quit whining princess, we'll be there soon." He says chuckling and I hugged as my heart beat sped up. "Why is your heart beating so fast?" He asks and you could practically hear the smirk on his lips. I groaned and rolled my eyes flashing the light down the stairwell. I gasped at how high we were and whimpered gripping onto the railing tightly. "Hey," he stops and looks back at me. "Don't look down okay? Let's just keep moving. Don't look down, one more flight." He says and I stare down. He walks down towards me and grabs my hand. I look up at him and he smiles down up at me. He gently pulls me away and I take a deep shaky breath before following behind Brett.
His hand stays locked with mine as we continue our way up the steps. We finally get to a door and Brett twists the knob opening it. We walk onto the roof and over to the edge.
"Oh my god Brett, I can't do this." I said stopping just before we got to the edge.
"Okay, okay, we don't have to go to the edge if you don't want to." He says gently and I nod. He kisses my temple and smiles at me and I return it with a weak one. I take a deep breath and begin to feel like I couldn't breathe. My breathing became ragged as I gasped for air. "Addie," he said and grabbed my shoulder. I stared down at the road beneath us and I began to wheeze. Brett moved me back and searched my pockets. I gasped for air and he finally found it. He opened the cap and put it in my mouth and pressed down. I inhaled my breathing soon calming down. "Okay, here, let's go over here. It's almost time." He smiles and grabs my hand. I nodded and we walked to the other side of the building. I saw a blanket laid down with some pillows and another blanket with a basket laying on the blanket. I grinned and looked up at Brett to see him already looking down at me with a grin on his face. "Come on." He pulls me again and I follow after him.
We sit down on the blanket and he pulls the basket infront of him.
"I figured, this would be a nice little suprise date." He says smiling over at me. I grin at him, pulling my bottom lip underneath my teeth and scoot closer to him.
"At 5:45 in the morning?" I asked and he chuckled nodding.
"We're going to watch the sunrise together." He says sweetly as his smile begins to appear on his face again. I smiled and looked down at my lap. I heard him chuckle then dig through the basket. He pulls out a thermos and two red plastic cups. He pours then hot brown liquid into each cup. I watch as steam comes up from the top and he hands the cup to me.
"What is it?" I asked looking up at him. He took a sip of his and I knew it wasn't coffee. "Hot chocolate?" I asked and he nodded. My smile only grew bigger and I took a small sip of it making sure not to burn myself. "So what time is the sun supposed to rise?" I questioned Brett.
"Around 6, 6:05." He says and I nod. I reached for the blanket and scoot closer to Brett. I lay my head on his shoulder and wrap the blanket around us.
"It's cold." I giggled looking out at the ocean water.
"Yeah, it is chilly." He says. He wraps his arms around me and moves me in between his legs and wraps his arms around my waist and I lean back onto his chest and smile. He grabs the blanket and wraps it around his back and wraps it around me. He kisses my shoulder and we lay there in silence.
"This is perfect." I said breaking the silence.
"What?" Brett asks and I smile.
"Simple dates like this. I love them. I like doing simple things, I think spending a ton of money on dates is pointless because you can get the same quality time together and I'm satisfied with the ones that don't cost anything." I explained. "Don't get me wrong, going out to dinner or something is fun every once in awhile but I love these kind of dates." I snuggled further into his chest.
"I love you." He says to me and I giggle.
"I love you too." I replied turning my head up at him. I puckered my lips and he leaned down connecting our lips. I pulled away and kisses his lips a couple times after that.
"You ready for this baby?" He asks as the clock hit 5:57. His arms wrap tighter around my waist and I sit up curling my legs up like a pretzel. I bite my lip and wait for the sun to rise.
The clock hit 6 o'clock and the sun began to peak up from the horizon. I looked back at Brett with a grin on my face then turned back to the ocean. I heard the camera to Bretts phone click but I ignore it and continue to look at the sunrise. It began to get higher and higher above the horizon and I was amazed at how beautiful it was.
"It's so beautiful." I said quietly.
"It is." Brett agreed.
"We need to make this a thing." I said to him not taking my eyes off the sun.
"If that's what you want. We can do this every Sunday morning." He says and I nod.
"Promise me something." I said and turned my body to him.
"What is it?" He asks placing his hands on my thighs.
"If we are ever apart, no matter what for, for how long, wherever we are, every Sunday whether we're together or not we always go to see the sunrise. No matter where we're at." I explained and he looked at me with a smile then nodded.
"I promise." He says and presses his lips to mine.
