Nidavellir.
Two days later.
- "I guess bureaucracy is another constant in every world, huh?" I grinned, sipping my coffee and sitting in Olga's office while she looked through papers at her desk with her usual expression, and Chloe helped her as best she could.
- "Unfortunately," Olga replied, looking up from her work and taking a sip of coffee from her cup. "Now I understand why you prefer this drink to elven wine. It gives you energy and helps you stay focused."
- "I don't understand how you can drink that, my queen, Lord Romani," Chloe grimaced slightly. "For me, it's too... unusual."
- "Heh, it's always like that when you're not used to it. And I don't drink coffee because of its properties, but rather because of my addiction to it," I shrugged. "Well, since we've digressed, let's talk a little. It's kind of boring."
It was true. I had been dying of boredom for the past two days. Nidavellir was beautiful, but there was nothing to do there. For this reason, the only thing I did during those days was sleep or "visit" that elf, Zask, I think, who tried to take my head off every time. Unsuccessfully, of course.
Returning on the day of the meeting with the elders, they, of course, agreed to obey Olga, after exchanging glances and remaining silent for a few seconds. After that, Olga quickly got to work, Chloe went to help her queen, and I went back to doing nothing.
Well, not quite. The chief elder came to Olga once with a proposal. She wanted Olga and me to conceive a child, since Olga was no longer a virgin, obviously to increase the city's power and other nonsense.
Of course, I shook my head, but I was momentarily intrigued by the look Olga gave me when the elder made her proposal. It was a slight excitement with a hint of doubt, and a normal person would have jumped for joy at such a look, but I just rolled my eyes, taking the obvious message to heart.
Even though Olga was not bad, with good looks, intelligence, and so on, I didn't really care. As an acquaintance, a friend at most? Quite possibly, but no further than that. Although, perhaps Morgana's reaction had influenced me. Heh.
Well, now I had a very interesting conversation ahead of me.
- "You mean right now?" Olga asked with a slight smirk.
- "Oh, so you figured it out too, huh?" I grinned back at her. "When do you think they'll make their move?"
- "I don't know. Right now, the elders are listening to me, but they're definitely planning something to get their old position back, or they've already prepared something," Olga shook her head and took another sip. "In this situation, you are the key figure, Romani. That proposal wasn't the only one, and they'll try again, adding something else, and then they'll make their move. And until that happens, my hands are tied, because I have no one to trust here except Chloe and you."
- "Well, that's obvious. It's not my fault that your magic system sucks," I rolled my eyes. "Besides, they definitely don't believe a word I say, even though they showed the opposite."
- "Why don't you just get rid of them, Lord Romani?" Chloe asked suddenly. "If they want to cause you trouble and are disloyal to the queen, then..."
- "He's a god, Chloe," Olga interrupted gently.
- "What? What are you talking about, my queen?"
- "She means that all gods are selfish and don't really care about the lives of mortals. It's mostly just to relieve their boredom. And considering your understanding of my character... Olga?"
- "Romani wants to let them make their move to prolong the entertainment and interest in his experiment," Olga finished, to which I nodded, and Chloe looked puzzled, then lowered her head but said nothing. "But I have a question."
