CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT.
THE DRIVE BACKto Lydia's house — all their houses — was tense. Allison had agreed to take back Irene, Evee, and Lydia home. Not like Lydia would go home with anyone else either way. The silence was fit for Evee, feeling slightly light headed from that spell she did on Isaac, Peter got to her. He had been getting to her and seeing Isaac like that finally shook fear.
Allison let out a sight of exhaustion when she had parked in front of Lydia's house. Irene was stunned, also scanning her home like she had down with Scott's,"I need you to promise that you won't say anything about what just happened."
Lydia's head was already turned to Allison as she replied,"I'll promise not to say anything about what just happened if you can tell what the hell just happened?"
Lydia was scared, who wouldn't be.
"It's-it's kind of complicated. I..."
"Well how about you start with, why was Derek there? Or...where Jackson went? Or what's wrong with Erica," Allison stayed silent, bitting on her tongue. Lydia felt the similarity of her and Evee at this moment,"Oh, do you need a minute to come up with a plausible lie?"
Evee looked up, her arm against the window as she bit on her nail watching their interaction closely,"Part of the reason why I'm asking is because Scott and I aren't supposed to be seeing each other, okay? So it's better if you keep what you know to yourself."
"Fine," Lydia stated stern and cold,"I'll keep what I know about you and your boyfriend—which is nothing, to myself."
Lydia went to open the door until Allison held her back,"Hey, he's not just my boyfriend. You get that, right?"
"Let me go."
"Just for one second, please, try and remember-"
"Remember what," Lydia yelled.
"Remember what it feels like. All of those times in school when you see him standing down the hall and you cannot breathe until you're with him. Or...those times in class when you- you can't stop looking at the clock because you know that he's standing right out there waiting for you—don't you remember what that's like?"
Lydia paused, processing Allison's words like it was a distant term,"No."
