CHAPTER FORTY-TWO.
SEEING HER MOTHER again felt like a twisted joke, she didn't understand why her father would do this to her. Her father didn't even look that pleased to see Estelle smiling wide to her daughter, hugging her in an awkward hold while Irene sent daggers to the familiar parental figure. It felt like hugging a stranger, or something even worse than that.
She came at a lost of words as Estelle took noticed of her daughters silence, which really came out as hostility. Irene was stunned, looking to her father with a prominent frown. Esther's tone grew sharp, surprised by her daughter's reaction,"What's with the long face?"
Irene blinked, her eye twitching with every movement of her eye. She was mad, angry, fuming: there wasn't words for how she felt. But a part of her also felt betrayed by her father, after abandoning them, raising the girl while her mother disappeared, he'd really consider Estelle a surprise for her? Could he really be this cruel now? Who was her father?
Irene felt her composed self coming through, the part of herself that was blunt like her mother and father. Cruel,"What are you doing here?"
Estelle furrowed her eyebrows as Irene now sent her glare to her mother. She still had her smile, her hands reaching out to cup her daughter's hand, scoffing,"I haven't seen you in three years now you wanna surprise me?"
Estelle laughed, humor laced in her reaction,"Oh Rene. Always so stubborn, tough. You don't see humor in anything?"
Irene scoffed back in disbelief,"I can see the humor in you wanting to act like a mother. If that's your attempt right now," Irene looked up to her father, her arms crossed,"And you didn't think to tell me?"
"Baby she's your mother and these coming weeks are important for you," Leo explained, leaning against the wall as he watched the two women speak.
Irene shook her head, right. This was all about the initiation. It was all about Evee fucking Sharp. Everything seemed to be about her when she spoke to her father now. Initiation. Kill. Hunting. Enemy.
Estelle continued, ignoring the obvious hostility,"The weeks before my initiation were...serene. You don't feel true to yourself, your family, your legacy until you get that first kill. And with you. You hit a jackpot. Leo's been telling me you've been a bit nervous but if you pull this off...you'll make history. For me, your father. You'll be saving everyone."
"Saving," Irene questioned, her brows knitted to her mother. She hated that her dad had told Estelle about how she had been feeling, her hesitance. No other betrayal hit more than right now,"So you came to secure your legacy?"
