Without You

As the stormy rain poured onto the cobblestone, Evara leaned her head against the window while he rested his hand nearby. The street was lined with luxury brands. Evara's eyes lit up, but she instantly felt out of place. What was a 19-year-old girl doing with a grown man?

She looked down at her outfit compared to his. He was dressed his age—clean, mature, and collected. Evara was too, technically, but she felt ashamed of her mentality. She looked like an average teenager, hand interlocked with a man who at least looked in his late twenties.

He parked the car, and she watched him turn off the engine.

"Hey, I think I might stay in here while you—"

"What? Why?" he asked.

"I just don't feel well right now," she answered.

"Why? What's the matter?" he asked soothingly, taken aback by her tone. She watched people scatter in the rain.

"Hey..." he murmured, placing a hand on her thigh again.

"I'm just... I just don't feel well," she lied.

"Evs, you're making it really obvious it's something else." He smiled a little.

"Nothing. We can just go..." she muttered.

"I'm sorry, I just don't want to talk about it right now..." she sighed and tried to get out of the car, but he caught her hand, stopping her.

"I just want to make sure you're okay," he insisted.

"I am," she reassured him. She leaned forward and gave him a quick kiss before pulling away. He stared at her, trying to read her expression.

"Okay," he sighed, getting out with his umbrella. He came around to her side, propping it open as the rain hammered against the wind. He opened her door, and she stepped out, crossing her arms as she shivered.

He closed the door and quickly grabbed the boutique retail bag from the backseat. With a click, he locked the car. Evara looked around and then wrapped her arm around his, resting her head on his warm coat. He held the umbrella over both of them.

When they reached the luxury store, he pulled the door open for her. She stepped inside and instantly felt eyes glued to her. She turned to watch him shake off the umbrella before folding it and walking in. She grabbed his arm again—his presence always eased her nerves.
