"Maricella, Vamos a ir antes de que lleguemos tarde para nuestro vuelo, mija."
(Let's go before we're late for our flight.)
"Lyric, let's go! You're mom is getting impatient and so am I."
"Okay. Okay. I just need to get my bags and then we can go. Sheesh"
My mom and best friend can be such nags sometimes. But I love them dearly.
Yes Kiara lives with us and yes my mom has no problem with it, I mean why would she?
My name is LaReina Maricella Vargas but Lyric to you. I am 17 years old but that'll all be changing in a week, how exciting? I was Born and raised in the Bronx, but I left when I turned 15.
I can honestly say that leaving my hometown was bittersweet at first, I thought I was losing everything that i've gained. Come to find out I was gaining more than I was receiving, but i'll tell you more about it in a minute.
But you're probably wondering why am I getting ready for a flight?
You see, me and my family (Kiara and my mom) took a trip back to the Bronx. Kiara's hometown as well.
We came here to visit for our annual family reunion which we have every year, nothing fancy just tradition.
I met Kiara in the 6th grade, a couple of months after she was left with her abuela after her mom went to the Women's Penitentiary for who knows what.
Ever since then we've been like two peas in a pod.
When she turned 16 she moved with us after having a huge arguement with her grandma. She was tired of the fighting and arguing so she decided to leave, she showed up on my doorstep that night and you know me, I welcomed her with opened arms.
Ever since then, my mom has been taking care of her like one of her own.
When I found out we were moving to Calabasas, California I was a little upset about leaving New York. I mean this is where I grew up, I know these streets like the back of my own hand.
But my mom wanted us to have that fresh start and she's been trying to get out of the Bronx since I could remember. Now that she has the chance, she's taking it.
But the thought of not having to go to a new school alone and go through everything that I already been through before we met, you know like the stares and the whispers, the ratchets that thought they were going to put me in check, you know. The usual.
I was psyched that we would be experiencing life together forever. I actually like the neighborhood that we live in now and the school that we go to, Calabasas High.
That's where I met the realest of the real people at and I couldnt wait to get back to Cali to be with them again and show them the new look that I've tooken up that comes along with my arrival, especially Jaden.
Jaden is my boyfriend back home. He stands about 5'8, with a flat top that's cut low. He has this nice caramel skin complexion that is so smooth and rich. His eyes are a soft dark brown with a little glisten in them that makes them more hypnotizing then they already are. And that gorgeous smile of his, it's the definition of 'Perfection.'
I know he'll be drooling when he sees me, well what could I say? I'm not that bad looking..
I felt relaxed at the thought of me being back in Cali in a few hours. No one is going to ruin it for me, it's going to be a great year for all of us, I can feel it.
Or so I thought...

FanfictionI grew up in a rough neighborhood. Bronx, New York to be exact. There was always police sirens and ambulances throughout the night, not even the day was safe. Drug dealers, pimps, and prostitutes everywhere you looked. That's why I had to go. My one...
