Hi! I'm so sorry for the super late update. School's been keeping me busy and I know that's not an excuse to the months of not updating omg. But, here's chapter 20 for y'all!
]|I{•------» CHAPTER TWENTY «------•}I|[
Chris arrived at the set just as the crew was starting to pack up equipment. It was already dark outside, and most of the extras and technicians were heading out. Scarlett was standing near her trailer with Callie, who had been sitting on a chair while waiting for her to finish a few last takes.
When Chris stepped out of the car and waved at them, Callie gave him a smile of “finally, we're going home!” and stood up on her own, walking over with Scarlett.
“You guys ready? I picked the right time, I guess? People here are already packing, and the papz are nowhere to be found. ” Chris said.
“Which is something we should be grateful for.” Scarlett continued what he said, her voice tired but calmer now that the day was over.
Chris nodded and raised his brow annoyingly at the girl. “Did you enjoy being around here?”
Callie stretched her arms a little and nodded her head. “Scarlett actually got bruises.” She said as if she couldn't believe it. Then, she continued with a small voice. “Can we get takeout on the way? I’m starving.”
Scarlett raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t you eat all your snacks earlier?”
“That was hours ago, and you were on set all the time.” she said, rolling her eyes playfully.
Scarlett chuckled. “We can grab something quick.”
They got in the car— with Callie in the back and Scarlett in the passenger seat. There wasn’t any awkward silence. Callie talked a bit about the set food and asked Scarlett about one of the stunt props she saw earlier. Chris listened and joined.
They picked up burgers and fries on the way back with the two adults cautiously watching the people around them. They can't take a risk about photos circulating online again.
In the car, Callie made a dumb joke about Chris taking too long to choose a drink, and he flicked a fry at her, making her laugh. Scarlett watched them from the side, quietly relieved at how different this felt compared to months ago.
By the time they got home, Callie was yawning between bites. She dropped her bag by the stairs and looked at both of them.
“Goodnight. Don’t stay up too late or whatever,” she said, sounding casual but content that she could already feel the comfort of being around her parents and her mom.
Scarlett stepped closer and brushed a hand through Callie’s hair before pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.
“Sleep well,” she said gently.
Callie didn’t pull away or act weird about it. She just nodded and headed upstairs, still chewing on the last fries she’d stolen from Chris.
After the girl went upstairs and said her good night to her parents, Scarlett then went to the kitchen and came back with two glasses of water and set one on the coffee table. Chris was sitting on the couch, leaning back, his jacket draped over the armrest. The house was quiet now, the kind of quiet that only settles when Callie’s already upstairs and the day finally loses all its noise.
