"Rhis?"

Callie was taken aback as soon as she heard whose voice it was. She stopped in her tracks. She couldn't move, because the people standing in front of her were the last ones she wanted to see.

Slowly, softly, Scarlett walked through the door with a joyous smile visible on her face. Callie didn't move, though; she watched as her mother took her in her arms and kissed her hair.

Her blue eyes stared outside as Scarlett tightened her embrace. Callie was too numb to even comprehend what was happening because all she knew was that her father had a relieved and joyous expression on his face, and he was standing a few feet away from them.

"Oh, thank God we've found you. You had us so worried, baby," Scarlett whispered into the air and retracted herself from the hug. She then cupped her daughter's face and softly smiled.

Still, Callie didn't move. She just focused her ocean eyes on Scarlett's forest ones, and Scarlett cursed herself because Rhislett's eyes contained nothing but despair. Her eyes were puffy from crying last night, or probably worse.

"Why'd you do it, Rhisy?" Scarlett asked as she tucked a few strands of hair behind Rhislett's left ear.

She didn't answer.

"You shouldn't do it again, okay?" This earned nothing but a slow nod from Callie.

Chris, who was currently standing by the door, made his way towards his best girls and faced Callie with a soft smile plastered on his face. He put one of his hands on the girl's face before asking, "Are you okay?"

After that, a bead of tears fell down Callie's cheeks as soft sobs followed. A surprised look washed over both Scarlett and Chris' faces, and a big pair of arms enveloped Callie's small body. She sobbed there, holding tightly onto Chris' shirt as she let her unreleased tears stream down her face.

Scarlett was quite taken aback, though she did nothing but shift her position and rub circles on the girl's back.

She didn't want to feel it. She never wanted to. But a pang of jealousy crept in as she watched how their Rhislett seemed so comfortable under her father's touch.

Sniffles, hiccups, and cries filled the whole living room as both Daniel and Mary watched the scene unfold before their eyes. God, Daniel wanted to yell at his granddaughter's parents, but he didn't have any rights to do it because who was he even?

And so Mary and he took a few steps toward Chris and Scarlett and sent them an apologetic look. "We're glad you guys are here. My wife and I were extremely worried for Callie because she didn't stop crying last night until Patrick's voice soothed her. She told us everything that has happened, and we hope it won't happen again."

Chris and Scarlett both listened intently.

"I know we don't have the right to stand up for Cal... but she's your daughter, and you're her parents, her real ones. You gave her life, and that life, you must protect and love it," Daniel continued. "We love your daughter so much that it hurts us too, seeing her being torn apart by the situation she's in."

The two didn't say anything; they felt too much guilt in their souls after they heard those words. And so they only nodded their heads in reply. Callie calmed down, though she couldn't look into her mother's eyes. It just hurt too much.

They stayed there for a couple more minutes and went home without giving a damn about each other. Callie would've really wanted to stay there, but what was even the point? Her parents came there to fetch her, and after hearing what her grammy and pappy had told her, she felt the urge to break down.
