I had to move out. I had no other choice! My parents were the absolute worst parents in the world! I mean, who beats and threatens their child before they're even able to speak? Yes, that's who my parents are. John and Cara Landerson, and I'm the lucky one who gets to have their last name as well.
After I finished packing to move in with my new room mate Hunter Wolff, I picked up my teddy bear that sat in the middle of my cheap, creaky bed. I looked into its black button eyes and smiled, remembering the memories of when my aunt was still alive. She was the one who gave me the bear when I was two years old. She was the only one who loved me, and showed me the world. When cancer took over her body though, I was devastated when she didn't make it.
"Zoe!"
Spinning around quickly, I saw my best friend, Casey Clockerson, standing in the door frame, waiting for me to give her a hug. I ran into her arms, and my face fell into her red curls.
Casey had moved in with her boyfriend Cole when she turned eighteen because she couldn't live with her parents anymore either. But her parents babied her and were on her heels every second, so she couldn't take it and moved out to California. I was only seventeen at the time and technically running away, but did my parents even care? Probably not.
"Are you ready?" Casey asks, looking behind my shoulder to examine my bags.
"Defiantly!" I grinned, running to grab some bags. Casey took one over her shoulder and I grabbed the other two, and we sprinted down the stairs and out the front door before my parents came back. We threw my bags in her car, and sat up front. As we pulled out of the driveway, I thought to myself.
'This is the last time you're ever going to see this place. You're finally free!'
Relief washed over me, and it felt like all of the evil flew out of me. Like I was leaving a dark place, with with red lava and red walls.
"Ready to meet Hunter?" Casey's voice asked, pulling me from my thoughts. Hunter. His name stuck to my brain. I had told him the biggest lie that I ever told anyone. I told him that my reason for moving out was because my parents always babied me, and were too over protective. They agreed for me to explore the world though, and I had to leave quick before they changed their minds.
"Scared and excited," I reply, staring out my window and watched the world pass by.
"Remember what I told you," she began. "He's one of those bad ass players. Don't fall for his tricks!"
"I won't," I laugh. "There's plenty of other guys out in California that I can date."
We began to laugh before Casey turned up the radio, and our voices drowned out to the music.
"Wake up Zoe!" I heard a voice as someone began to shake my sleeping body. I groaned before slowly opening my eyes, revealing Casey's face. She smiled and backed away, letting my eyes see an amazing, small blue house. It came with a matching black roof, and beautiful white and red flowers planted in front. It was absolutely beautiful!
Casey dragged me from my day dream by opening the door, and pulling me out. We took my bags and walked up the red brick path, to the creamy, white front door. Casey knocked and we heard foot steps getting closer and closer until the door swung open, revealing an outstanding gorgeous man!
His black hair was spiked up, showing off his tan skin, and grassy green eyes. My eyes ran down his neck that held a gold, cross chain, and drooled over his white shirt that clung to his muscles. His tan shorts stopped at his knees, showing off his incredibly muscular legs.
"Done checking me out?" A blush creeped on my face as my eyes darted up to his face which held a smirk, showing his white teeth that sparkled.
"She wasn't checking you out Hunter," Casey scoffed, placing a hand on her hip and rolling her eyes.
"Always great to see you Casey," Hunter chuckled, standing to the side to let us in. As I walked into the warm house, I took in my surroundings which were breath taking. The stair case was right there when you walked in, covered in a clean red carpet. To the right was a small living room with black leather sofas, and a flat screen TV hanging on the wall. A coffee table was in the middle of the two couches with a vase including flowers resting on top. To my left was a dining room with a brown, shiny table and eight matching seats, three on the long sides and one on the ends. Finally, a beautiful chandelier hung on the ceiling above the table.
"You're room is upstairs, second door on the left," Hunter announced, and I thanked him.
"How much do I pay for rent?"
"Nothing," he replied, throwing me off guard. "My mom is extremely rich. She owns three bars, hotels and owns this house. So she lets me stay here only if I keep it clean."
"You're joking?"
"No. I'm not saying you can stay here for free though. You need to help keep this place clean too!"
"I can do that," I nodded.
"Let's go unpack," Casey nudged, pushing me towards the stairs. We followed Hunter's directions and found a door that was a light brown. Pushing it open, I found a small room with a queen sized bed, a silver dresser, and a television.
After Casey and I finished unpacking my clothes and personal belongings, we collapsed on the bed, out of breath.
"What do you think of Hunter?" she asks as we look up at the ceiling like its the sky, filled with amazing stars.
"He's... okay."
"It better stay at okay!" she ordered. "I don't want you falling for him. You'll get yourself hurt."
"I know Casey we've already been through this!"
As we heard footsteps enter the room, our attention was drawn to Hunter who was holding a phone in his hand. "You girls want pizza?"
"Not me," Casey replied, standing from the bed. "I have to get home before Cole worries."
She gave me a quick hug and told me to call her if anything happens. Once she was almost out of the room, she stopped and faced Hunter. "Hands to yourself."
Hunter grew a smirk and placed his hands in the air in defense. When Casey was gone, my new room mate looked back at me.
"What kind of pizza do you like?" he asks.
"I don't care."
"They're all out of that."
Rolling my eyes, I laughed before replying with, 'cheese.' Nodding, he walked away while dialing a number onto the phone. I slumped back in my fuzzy purple pillows, and smiled to myself. I was finally away. Finally away from my god awful parents. Away from misery and pain. It felt amazing!
