Chapter 6

My alarm clock started to buzz at seven in the morning. I reached over to click snooze, and then turned it off, forcing myself to get up. I groaned as I arose from my bed, and entered the hall. I clawed my way through my knots in my hair and walked into the bathroom. I let out a scream when I saw black, permanent marker, all over my face!

I tried to rub it off with a wet towel but it obviously didn't work. All it did was make my face extremely red and burn. Hunter soon ran into the bathroom with a shocked look on his face and a bat in his hand. Once he saw me, he began to laugh, clutching his stomach as he bent over.

"You think THIS," I began, pointing to my face. "Is FUNNY?"

"Yes Sunshine," he winked, sobering up a little. "That's what you get for spraying me with a hose!"

"I have to go to work!" I pointed out.

"Put on foundation!"

I gave him a growl before slamming the door in his face and locking it. Scanning my face on the mirror again, I found that the towel had helped a little but not much. He had given me a mustache and freckles which made me want to scream even more. It wasn't much but I couldn't go to work like this. Quickly searching through my makeup bag, I pulled out three foundations and began to get to work.

"Hello Zoe," my boss greeted once I walked in. He arched an eyebrow and gave me a confused look. "You seem much... tanner."

"Oh it's my room mate," I replied. "He got revenge by drawing on my face with permanent marker. I had to cover it up with a LOT of foundation!"

"I'm sorry to hear that," he frowned before handing me my work uniform. "The bathroom is down the hall and on the right. Go change and I will have Brandon show you around."

Following his directions, I ended up in the bathroom, changing into an outfit I did not feel comfortable in. I looked in the mirror to find myself wearing a tight black belly shirt with long, thin sleeves, and light denim shorts that stopped at my mid thigh. I looked at myself in disgust as an older women walked in who looked to be in her sixties.

She stopped in the doorway while looking me up and down, before growing a sour expression. "Skank," she hissed, waddling into one of the stalls. My jaw hit the floor as I exited the bathroom, and walked behind the bar to find a tall man wiping down the counter.

"You must be Zoe," he greeted with a smile, reaching out to shake my hand.

"And you're Brandon?"

"I am," he assured, throwing the towel he had been using over his shoulder. The guys who worked here were lucky! They got to wear much more clothes than the girls. Well... me. Since the day I walked in here I haven't seen one single girl working.

"Come on, let me show you around," Brandon began, walking around and showing me everything I had to do. He told me the rules, how to work everything and some tips. If I work on Fridays or Saturdays, I have to watch out for dangerous men who were drunk off their butts. I also had to watch out for a girl by the name of Sasha. She was supposedly the only girl that worked here for two years. Apparently Rick didn't like hiring too many girls because they slacked off too much. The moment Sasha heard that there was another girl that was going to be working here, she got instantly jealous and said she would hate me. Perfect.

"Sasha works Tuesday through Friday," Brandon informed. "Just warning you."

I laughed as he patted my back before I spotted my first customer. But of course it was my annoying room mate who wore that sly smirk on his lips. I walked over to him with a sneer.

"What do you want?"

"Zoe!" Brandon whispered, walking over. "Be nice to the customers!"

"He isn't a customer, he's just my arrogant room mate!"

"Wait, Hunter Wolf is your room mate?" Brandon laughed. I gave him a confused look before turning to Hunter who's smirk turned into a wide grin. "When were you going to tell me Hunter?"

Hunter laughed in with Brandon as I still stood there confused. "You two know each other?"

"Sunshine I am extremely popular in this town," Hunter informed. "Now get me a Bud Light!"

"Get it yourself," I retorted.

"Zoe," Brandon began. "You may hate him but if you want to keep your job, you have to be nice to him here."

"Yeah Zoe," Hunter chided. I stuck my tongue out at him before spinning around, and grabbing his stupid bear. He traded me the money and I threw it in the cash register.

"Wait," I began, suddenly realizing something. "Is today... Wensday?"

"Yes," Brandon sighed, knowing where I was going with this.

"Great," Hunter muttered as soon as a blond haired girl walked through the doors.

"Huntie!" she yelled, running behind him and wrapping her arms around his neck, causing him to nearly spill his drink.

"Hi Sasha," he rolled his eyes, pulling away from her grip. Her blue eyes turned up to me and a frown formed on her face.

"You must be the new girl?" I nodded. "Well stay away from Hunter! He's mine!" She was saying all of this as if he wasn't even sitting there. After she disappeared down the hall, Brandon rubbed my back as Hunter sipped his beer.

"Don't take her the wrong way," Brandon began. "She just needs to warm up to you."

"Yeah and cool down from me," Hunter added, earning him two chuckles.
