Chapter 4
"These ones are amazing!" Casey screeched, holding a pair of blue high heels in her hands. A grin widened her mouth as she did her happy dance, finally finding the right club shoes she's been dreaming of. "I have to get them!"
"But you spent all your money on those dresses that we both know you're never going to wear," I laughed and she looked at me like I was stupid.
"It's called Cole's credit card," she said in a duh tone, holding out his blue card in my face. "Pick out whatever shoes you want!"
"I'm not spending Cole's money."
"He doesn't care," she said, dismissing me with a wave of her hand. I laughed, rolling my eyes before looking around at all the incredible, expensive shoes. Blue, white, even pink heels decorated the shelves. Casey decided that I was going to get red ones with black lacing. I had to admit, she did have great taste in shoes.
Casey and I walked through the front door to find Hunter playing a very intense game of tennis on the Wii. I began to laugh as we watched him bouncing around the room with the remote in his right hand. He quickly turned to face us with wide eyes and red cheeks.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
"Uh, I kind of live here," I retorted, placing a hand on my hip.
"But you're back quick."
Casey soon stepped in with a raised eyebrow. "It's been two hours. That gave you enough time to be gay playing tennis."
Hunter gave her a killer look as his jaw clenched. We turned to the sound of someone banging on the door. Hunter shut off the TV and threw the remote on the couch, running over to us and pushing us towards the stairs.
"Get upstairs and hide in Zoe's room. Don't come out until I tell you to."
I stopped and turned to him. "Why?"
"I'm expecting someone, and that must be him. If you come out, then you will be in deep, serious shit!"
Casey just pulled me up the stairs, and we ran into my room, ducking into my closet before dropping the bags and slamming the door. Of course there was no lock on the door. Perfect.
"Who do you think was at the door?" Casey whispered, holding her knees close to her chest.
"I don't know, but I kind of want to find out." As I was about to stand, Casey gripped my arm and yanked me down.
"You heard Hunter," she began. "We'll be in deep, serious shit if we go down without him telling us."
She was right. If we went down there, all hell may break loose. We didn't know if this person was capable of killing us. I was beginning to get suspicious about Hunter's secret life.
As we heard foot steps stomping up the stairs, our heart paces became quicker. I quietly opened the closet door as Casey tried to grab my leg but missed. I crawled towards the door and placed my back against it so the stalker wouldn't be able to enter the room with my weight against the door.
The footsteps stopped right outside and the only sounds were my heart thumping, and the breathing of the person on the other side of the door. My breathing hitched in my throat as the door handle jiggled as if someone was trying to break in. I shut my eyes and leaned harder against the wooden door as it began to push open.
"Zoe, open the door," Hunters voice gently ordered. I let out the breath I had been holding and opened my eyes, pulling the door while standing up.
"You jerk!" I spat, whacking his chest with my hand. "You scared me half to death!"
He laughed and I growled at him. He thought this was hilarious while I wanted to punch him in the face. But I knew I would break my knuckles if I did.
