Chapter Eleven

The day passed, with Barbara and Gemma chatting in Gemma's room and Bruce, Jason, Tim, and Dick watching football and talking.

The doorbell rang at Wayne Manor at about 3:30 in the afternoon and Jason rushed down the hall to get the door. Alfred beat him there and opened the giant door to reveal Stephanie Brown standing there.

"Jay?" Stephanie looked like she was about to cry.

Jason picked her up and spun her around.

"I missed you so much Steph..." Jason whispered in her ear.

"I can't believe you're really back... It's not normal." Stephanie said, once Jason put the blonde back down.

"I know, I don't understand it either, but I'm back and that's all that matters."

Gemma helped Barbara into her wheelchair and they went downstairs to greet Stephanie. (she was getting better at walking, but still needed the chair.)

Gemma took note of Stephanie's features, average height, blonde hair so wavy it was almost curly, and looked a little bit younger than Jason, who Gemma learned was 18.

Since the guy arrived, Gemma hadn't seen Jason smile. Now that he was with Stephanie he couldn't wipe the grin off his chisled face.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang again.

"Please don't be Damian, please don't be Damian." Tim muttered.

Alfred opened the door, and Cass walked in, calmly. 

"Jason?" She asked uncertainly before turning to Stephanie. "How was Star City? I heard it was cold..."

"Yeah, not much fun. But I met the whole Arrow family. Ya know, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Artemis, Speedy- I mean Red Arrow." Steph stifled a giggle. "Wait a sec. Somethin' here is different... Who's she?" Stephanie nodded at Gemma.

"This is Gemma, she lives at the Manor." Tim explained simply.

"Oh... Cool. Are you two dating?" Steph asked.

Cass gave a small smile, Jason raised an eyebrow, and Dick and Barbara looked at each other with knowing smiles.

"NO! Why does everyone ask that?!" Tim groaned.

Gemma tried not to blush and looked down.

"Well you are holding her hand." Stephanie pointed out.

Tim and Gemma looked down, and noticed that their fingers were interlocked. Whoops.

"Is she the new Batgirl? 'Cause I though I was still Batgirl." Stephanie asked Bruce.

"No, she isn't fighting crime." Bruce explained, already knowing what the next question would be.

"Well, can I join the Batfamily? I already live here. I want to fight crime! And I also want a cape." Gemma said.

"Yeah! Bruce let her fight crime! We can fight crime together! With Tim!" Steph paused dramatically. "Batgirt, Red Robin... And.... And.... Okay, we'll come up with a name for you later, Gemma."

"She could take over as The Huntress since Helena is done crime fighting!" Barbara suggested.

"Yes!" Gemma smiled.

"Whoa whoa whoa. I haven't agreed to this, and I'm the one who would have to train her." Bruce interrupted.

"I could help." Tim offered.

"Me too." Added Cass.

"She could help me as Oracle." Barbara piped in.

"I could take her on patrol." Dick contributed to the conversation.

"I can make a costume for Miss Gemma." Alfred said.

"I'm gonna be a suuuuuperhero!" Gemma sang to herself, unable to hide the grin on her face.

"What do you think, Jay?" Steph whispered to Jason, away from the conversation.

"Not sure, I don't know her." Jason replied with a shrug.

"OKAY ENOUGH. THIS IS WHY WE DON'T HAVE BATFAMILY REUNIONS. You all go absolutely crazy!" Bruce shouted.

"Gemma's the new Huntress? Good thinkng Bruce." Cass completely ignored what Bruce had just said.

"Cass stop reading body language and saying things before everyone else does. Wait a second... Cass? Where have you been?" Bruce scolded.

"I was following a lead. Consider it a field trip." Cass replied

" A FIELD TRIP?!" Bruce looked like his eyes were going to pop out of his head. "Field trips are supposed to be safe and educational!"

"Probably wishing you just stopped at one right now." Dick teased.

"Dick, you are not exactly helping." Bruce narrowed his eyes.

Gemma just stared at everyone. This family was nuts.

"Okay, Gemma can be the new Huntress as long as we get permission from Helena and you all SHUT UP." Bruce looked exasperated.

"YAY!" Tim, Cass, and Gemma all cheered.

"Kids...." Bruce muttered to himself.
