So here's another chapter....
Everything in normal print is the present and everything in italics is the past.
Enjoy :)
Only a few more chapters....... Maybe only one more.
Gemma woke up to the sound of a beeping machine. It looked like its purpose was to watch her blood pressure. She sat up and noticed about 3 or 4 different wires connected to her fingers, hand, and wrist.
She wriggled up, not disturbing any wires, and immediately felt soreness fill her bruised and cut body. She tried to remember what had happened, but didn't come up with much.
Batman flew through the window and crashed his legs into Joker's chest. The gun had gone off and shot Gemma in her thigh. Tim quickly rushed over to her and tried to stop all the bleeding.
"Oh my god. Please be okay." He said wrapping his cape around the wound. "I'm so sorry. Oh my god it was so close to hitting your stomach."
Joker laughed, "Hello Batsy! Oops looks like our little friend just got shot!"
Batman glared and threw a punch at Joker. Red Hood (Jason) came around and smacked Joker upside the head. Stephanie kicked him in his gut, but he still didn't fall. Selina clawed at his scars.
Gemma, still unconscious, groaned and Tim tried to tend to all of her wounds, blood gushing out.
All she could really remember was hanging upside down and the Joker....
Gemma had only been up about 3 minutes when a nurse came in.
"How are you feeling honey?" She asked.
"Okay a guess... I feel all sore and achy and my head feels funny." Gemma's voice came out in a pitiful croak.
"You lost a lot of blood so that's why your head is fuzzy, but I'll get a higher dose of Morphine for you so you're not achy or sore."
Gemma nodded and the nurse left.
The medicine was soon placed into her IV and it stung as it was pushed into her blood system.
Gemma winced, but soon went loopy. She suddenly felt very tired and soon passed out.
Gemma's eyes had just closed when Tim and Bruce walked in.
Tim continued searching for Gemma's pulse, making sure she was still alive. He stayed by her side as the fight went on behind him.
Joker kicked Batman in the jaw, but Damian kicked Joker in the back, causing him to fall forward. Damian jumped on Joker's back to keep him on the floor. Huntress soon joined to help hold Joker down and the cops ran in.
"No fair! This wasn't a fair game at all! Not fun! How come Old Bats gets a giant team and I just have myself?!" Joker was pulled away and was soon sent back to Arkham Asylum.
Two nurses took Gemma on a stretcher away from Tim. They put her in the ambulance and did everything they could to help her before arriving at the hospital.
Gemma woke up again, this time to find Tim, Bruce, Barbara, Helena, Stephanie, Cass, Dick, Jason, and even Damian and Aunt Selina in her hospital room.
"Gemma!" Tim exclaimed, only to be shushed by Barbara and Bruce.
"I'll go get the nurse." Stephanie said, taking Jason along with her.
"How are you feeling? You lost so much blood." Barbara hugged Gemma.
"I think I'm okay... They gave me a lot of medicine..." She replied drowsily.
"Well..." Helena said slowly.
Gemma knew what was coming.
"Care to explain what happened?"
Gemma took a deep breath, "I got really nervous. Like a panic attack I guess. I hopped out the window and just ran for it."
"Why didn't you at least go somewhere familiar?" Selina asked.
"I don't know... I had the intention of going to your apartment, but my head was spinning and I couldn't focus. I didn't want anyone to see me so I ran down alleys and behind buildings. Joker just happened to be there... I put up a fight, but he used that laughing gas stuff..."
"You gave all of us a heart attack. You could have been killed. Don't ever run away like that again." Bruce said in a fatherly tone.
Gemma looked away feeling guilty.
"But we're glad you're okay." Bruce smiled.
"So... Does that mean I can stay?" Gemma asked hopefully.
The Bat Family laughed.
"You're already part of the family Gemma. So whether you like it or not, you cannot leave." Dick grinned.
Damian rolled his eyes.
Stephanie and Jason came back with the nurse and she ordered everyone out.
Gemma returned home about 2 weeks later, just in time for her 14th birthday.
The whole Bat Family, and others (Impulse, Selina, and Helena) came to celebrate. Alfred had baked a big cake with strawberry icing and added 14 candles on top.
The Bat Family sang (off key of course) and Gemma blew out the candles. Her life was perfect.
Sure, she hadn't become a superhero or gotten the guy, but there was time for that. She had a family and that was all she could ever need.
Late that night when everyone had gone to bed, Gemma sat in her bed wide awake, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in hand.
"Hi Dad..." She smiled. "I'm 14 finally. I have a new family, but I haven't forgotten my old one. Your friend Bruce Wayne adopted me. I have lots of brothers and sisters, but mostly they're my friends. Aunt Selina visits quite a bit. I think she's in love with Bruce. I just wanted you to know that I'm doing alright even though I miss you."
Gemma laid back down and fell asleep knowing that everything was as it should be.
