"Heart beats fast

Colors and promises

How to be brave

How can I love when I'm afraid

To fall." I listen to the song that finishes my last ruteen. I had already done my floor, and bars and trampoline. Now, I have beams. The song leads me, I have memorized this, I know this. This is my last chance for gold.

I finish my routeen with a bang. Literally, I slipped at the very when I was supposed to stick. 'Damn, oh well, all my others were great.' I think while exiting the beam area. About an hour later, when everyone finished their routeens, they call my age group for awards.

"Katie Matervish for Bronze." They call after the lower awards. They haven't called me yet, so either I didn't place, or I got great.

"Alright, for the silver and gold cups." Everyone started clapping.

"Sylvie Jacobson for silver cup." More clapping. Time slows down.

"Ladies and gentlemen for gold in the 15-18 girls section." There's a pause. Fingers crossed. 'It won't be me.'

"Savannah Woods." My mom stands the crowd claps so loud, I can't contain myself, my other friends pat me on the back and some hug me. I stand up and collect my trophy and take photos with my team. We all placed. I wish I knew this would be the last taste of happiness I would have for a long time.

---------------------------------------------

"To Sylvie, and Savannah, and all of you who placed!" Our coach tells us taking us out for ice cream. A group cheer happens and we dig in. After a very eventful night, I can finally crash onto the couch. I update my Facebook picture to my and my gold medal holding my gold cup. I change my cover photo to the whole team and their medals. That was one of the happiest days of my life. Only to be brutally ended the next day.
