Back to the present day Ragnar was on Dragons-back with Dymeria sat behind him, Arena glanced at the surface below them "it seems this battle has gotten to a breaking you sure Robert stark and Sam pyke can stop this" Rhaegar stroke Arenas neck comfortably "we can hope" just then Dymeria spoke interrupting the conversation "while you two were chatting, while I'm still surprised that can even happen I found an entrance to Oldtown the greyjoys have not exploited yet" in the far distance they see a tunnel system right under the defense of Oldtown under the Hightower keep Arena flew towards the entrance of the tunnel Rhaegar tells Arena to keep guard overlooking Oldtown keep a eye of the situation withought being spotted and with that Rhaegar and Dymeria enter the Oldtown tunnel system.
As Rhaegar and Dymeria entered the ancient tunnel system hidden beneath the sprawling foundations of Oldtown, the faint daylight that had spilled through the entrance behind them quickly faded into darkness, leaving only the pale glow of fire lanterns and the distant trickle of water echoing through the forgotten passageways that had lain undisturbed for centuries, while above them the fate of the city continued to hang in the balance between the defenders of House Hightower and the relentless armies of Ragnar Greyjoy, whose banners now surrounded much of the city like a tightening noose; yet as the pair advanced deeper beneath the earth, carefully navigating the uneven stone corridors carved by long-dead builders who had likely intended these hidden routes as emergency escape passages during some ancient siege, they gradually became aware that the tunnels were far larger than either of them had anticipated, branching into a maze of interconnected chambers supported by weathered pillars upon which faded carvings depicted the earliest days of Oldtown, when kings and scholars had first gathered beneath the shadow of the mighty Hightower.
The silence that enveloped them was unsettling, for despite the raging conflict above there was not a single sign that either the attackers or defenders had discovered this hidden network, and as Dymeria traced her fingers across the damp stone walls she could not help but wonder how such a valuable route had remained concealed for so long, especially during a siege in which every possible advantage was being desperately sought by both sides, while Rhaegar's sharp violet eyes studied every corridor ahead with cautious attention, his hand resting upon the pommel of his sword as years of warfare and experience warned him that forgotten places often concealed dangers far older and deadlier than any enemy army.
Several hundred yards into the depths of the tunnel system the passage suddenly widened into a vast underground chamber whose ceiling disappeared into darkness beyond the reach of their lantern light, and it was there that they finally discovered evidence that they were not the first to walk these forgotten halls, for scattered across the stone floor lay ancient crates reduced to splintered fragments by time, rusted weapons whose origins could no longer be identified, and skeletal remains dressed in decayed armor that appeared centuries old, their final resting place suggesting that some desperate struggle had once occurred beneath the city long before the current war had ever been imagined.
Rhaegar slowly knelt beside one of the skeletons, studying the corroded breastplate that still clung to its ribs, and although the sigil upon its chest had been nearly erased by age he could just make out enough of the design to recognize that it belonged to one of the forgotten noble houses sworn to Oldtown many generations ago, a realization that sent an uneasy feeling through him because it suggested these tunnels held secrets deliberately buried by history itself, while beside him Dymeria glanced toward a narrow corridor leading deeper into the darkness and quietly remarked that if these passages truly connected to the Hightower as she suspected, then they might soon find themselves standing within the very heart of the city without a single Greyjoy soldier realizing how close they had come.
Above them, far beyond the layers of stone and earth, Arena circled high over Oldtown upon silent wings, concealed by gathering clouds as she watched the battlefield unfold below.
Robert stark and Sam Pyke arrived at the camp where Ragnar had made camp carrying a white flag of peace. Two hours before the assault that would stain the walls of Oldtown with enough blood to haunt the memories of survivors for years to come, while a cold wind rolled in from the Sunset Sea and carried with it the cries of gulls circling above the Ironborn fleet anchored beyond the harbor approaches, two riders emerged from the southern road beneath a banner of truce, their white flag snapping sharply against the morning air as they approached the sprawling encampment that Ragnar had established along the coast, where thousands of warriors moved between cookfires, supply wagons, smithing tents, and rows of longships hauled partially onto shore, creating a landscape of organized chaos that reflected both the scale of the siege and the determination of the men who intended to see it through.
