Stepping In (Star Wars AU)

Chapter 11

Third Person

"I have been building the Death Star ever since the Clone Wars. It has the power to destroy a planet!"

Vader was shocked to say the least.

"M-master? Why would you want to destroy a planet? It seems so...... unnecessary."

Lightning again struck him.

"THE DEATH STAR WILL MAKE THE GALAXY FEAR ME!!! THEY WILL NEVER CHALLENGE MY EMPIRE!!!"

The lightning stopped and Vader struggled to catch his breath.

"What is my mission?"

"Imperial Intelligence has intercepted a transmission from Mon Mothma. The Rebel Council and all the Jedi will be on Dantooine. I want you take the Death Star to Dantooine and destroy it."

Vader looks up at his master, astonished.

"Destroy Dantooine?"

"Yes. Kill them all!"

"Yes....... my master."

This atrocity. It should have never been built. Now, Vader had the "honor" to command it.

"My Lord! We're coming out of hyperspace!"

Vader didn't answer but continued to stare at the green and blue planet in front of him.

"Sir! Rebel fighters in bound!"

"Activate the defenses and charge the superlaser!"

"It will take ten minutes for it to charge, My Lord!"

"What! Sidious said it would only take a minute!" Vader muttered to himself, angrily. "Hold off the enemy until it charges!"

Vader swiftly turned and walked to his personal fighter. He quickly flew out of the hanger and shot at the Rebelion fighters. Now, almost every Rebellion ship that was near Dantooine, plus reinforcements on their way, were all attacking the Death Star. Vader could sense the Jedi on the planet below.

"Cowards. They won't even come up here and fight."

But Vader was wrong. Several Jedi starfighters, which had been made specifically for the Jedi, flew from the planet towards the flying terror. Vader recognized all of them by their Force presence.. Plo Koon, Kit Fisto, Stass Allie, Aayla Secura, and Shaak Ti flew together, constantly firing at any Imperials that crossed their line of fire. Then, Stass Allie and Plo Koon broke from the rest, heading to the superlaser.

This can't be good. Two of the best Jedi pilots in the Jedi Order were heading to the superlaser. Vader quickly followed them. Once he got in range, he fired. They expertly dodged and fired at the laser.

The Death Star had only two weaknesses. One was a part of the mechanical moon which was not shielded because of shield failure. The other was one in the superlaser itself. If you hit it just right, it will destroy the laser.

They managed to miss but next time he might not be so lucky.
