Brisa Delgado- Peruvian ancestry; Brisa Delgado is an observant, down-to-earth, and practical girl whom encounters Millicent Yates during her time in Valley Stream and develops a romantic relationship with her. She is easygoing and has a positive attitude about the future and what it holds, with relatives that still live in the Cuzco, Peru area. She speaks both Spanish and Quechua after being taught by her paternal grandfather, who has a significant amount of indigenous ancestry and lived in Salt Lake City, Utah for several years before moving to New York. She tends to have a lot of dexterity when it comes to working with her hands and is shown to have been a part of both a string quartet and member of her school's badminton team. Brisa's biggest passion in life is fitness, as she tends to visit the gym at 5 in the morning at times and prefers a healthier diet, drinking around 6 to 8 cups of water a day. She often goes on YouTube to pick up different recipes and believes that some holistic remedies are pseudoscience, since they have no rigorous scientific validation. She is very proud of her Hispanic roots and has traveled to Peru multiple times in the past to spend the holidays with her extended family. Her culture tends to be rich in folklore, with her finding enjoyment learning about ancient societies such as the Inca Empire. Brisa is also fascinated by weavers or ceramicists from the mountains, who are connected to ancient traditions and use colorful, handmade textiles and bright clothes, including chullos and polleras. Her grandfather, who is from the Amazon and Andes knows the land intimately, serving at times as a guide or a person who has faced and overcome harsh struggles. She is a sociable, hospitable person who grew up surrounded by music, dance, and large family celebrations, such as carnivals and religious festivals.
She belonged to the Roman Catholic Church for the majority of her life until she came to terms with the fact that she was a lesbian, but still identifies as spiritual to an extent. Brisa is kind, warm, friendly, honest, considerate and straightforward and isn't afraid to put others' feelings before her own. She generally appears to be a normal 10th grade student, but she reveals a more serious side by expressing that she can't be the one who's not serious. She also has strong determination and confidence, but she is very humble and hates to show off, causing her to slack off most of the time and prioritize music competitions over her grades in school. She remains oblivious throughout her youth to the attention of the males surrounding her, as Moses Vega is among the boys who finds her physically attractive and even asks her to the semi-formal at one point. Brisa is the youngest female competitor in the concours who likes to do things at her own pace, having been playing the cello ever since she was 8 years old. She likes to go to sleep late at wake up at around 11 am, so she is very drowsy at times and occasionally seems confused or in a daze, and she prefers reading to watching television. She speaks slowly and politely, in a quiet voice, and she can be found sleeping anywhere, anytime, causing some onlookers to give her the title of "Sleeping Beauty". She nevertheless looks out for Millicent and often helps her, and their relationship is often mistaken as that of a couple by other people in the school. As the daughter of an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Brisa has overheard countless stories about complex facial reconstructions, gunshot wounds, or severe dental issues, making her unusually desensitized to gore and hyper-aware of human fragility.
She grew up with financial privilege, as her family owns several villas in the US and Peru, as well as one in Finland but lacked quality time with her father, who was always on call or in surgery. Although she is a genuinely sweet and gentle girl, she is often entranced by the sight of two girls interacting closely together, sometimes imagining something more risqué. She originally intended to join the choir club, and her friend Luna Estrada notes that her tea set and the tea she sips on are often unusually high in price. Brisa displays a rebellious streak occasionally, due to her wanting to deviate from her households rules, and diverts from a well-behaved and mature demeanor to the surprise of others. She also appears to have a habit of getting a little too enthusiastic about experiencing new things that the others take for granted and is a fan of Laufey. She tried doing a part-time job at Kohl's but quit within a month, and while a lot of things do not bother her, she is fairly conscious about her weight. Another characteristic that distinguishes her from most girls her age however is her surprisingly prodigious physical strength. Brisa's astounding feats of strength include rapidly carrying various pieces of Luna's drum set, one by one, with seemingly little effort and even humming a happy tune throughout. She also abruptly defeats the arm wrestling machine on maximum setting at the Game Centre, which Moses had painfully struggled against. She likewise jokes that she regularly runs a brisk jog with her synthesizer, which weighs just shy of 17 kg, or over 37 lb in imperial units slung across her shoulder. Additionally, she did not tire or slow down while dragging thirty kilograms of luggage and carrying her instrument over her shoulder as the band was running to catch a Taxi to London Heathrow Airport.
By contrast to Brisa, Millicent used to be very reserved and bashful by nature, and she was private and soft-spoken, even amongst close friends, and seemed to enjoy time alone. While she is now known for her self-assurance, she had been socially anxious and self-conscious since she was small, hence falling prey to the pedophilic Mr. Brewster and his immoral actions. She typically retreated into the sanctuary of her books and often struggled to interact with strangers, having few friends besides her older sister Avery. Her restrictive upbringing as the daughter of a Christian minister made her strikingly sensitive to attention from others, and she also embarrassed herself very easily and did not quickly live down mortifying moments. Brisa remained a steadfast presence in her life however and encouraged open communication between the two of them as she worked through her trauma. She introduced her to her heritage by offering her some picarones, which are pumpkin donuts and Papas a la Huancaína, or potatoes in spicy cheese sauce. She challenged many of her preconceptions and helped her put herself in another person's shoes and understand how people whose language and customs are different from hers live. She shared her first kiss with her when the two went to Bash Bish Falls in Massachusetts, and she gradually found ways for her to feel more comfortable with her body as their relationship eventually became physical. Throughout high school, Millicent gradually came to grip with her anxieties and insecurities and established herself as the voice of reason amongst her bandmates when their carefree ways got the better of them. Her parents were intolerant of her sexuality and attempted to send her to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania so that she could undergo conversion therapy.
She ultimately chose to embrace the truth, realizing that she could no longer lie to herself and came to see her aunt Ida, as well as Brisa and her best friend Cody Szozda as her true family. She vowed to start a new life in Connecticut with her first love upon graduating from high school and to stop caring about other people's opinions. Brisa is a beautiful girl with an average build who stands at approximately 5 ft. 4 in. tall, and she has an athletic build, with her being relatively toned. Her parents demonstrated more concern and genuine curiosity than outright animosity when she admitted her attraction to other women, but continue to be supportive of their daughter and her needs. As an only child, she is used to being her mother and father's main focus, which causes some of her classmates to see her as lucky when they see her upper class upbringing. She has long brown hair that tends to curl in the end, almond shaped brown eyes, and a light complexion, and she is especially fond of Luna, who she sees as her closest friend. Brisa attends the University of New Haven in the future, where she decides to major in exercise science, and she later works as a personal trainer and opens her very own gym. She is ambitious and worldly and has progressive views when it comes to gender roles, but still proud of her lineage and capable of honoring certain traditions. She becomes a strong advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights alongside her family and friends and has gone to pride month parades in the month of June. She and Millicent adopt three rats at one point whom they see as their babies, with her supporting her when she establishes herself in a career as an art therapist. ISFP 2w1
