Scott Tucker- German/Scottish ancestry; Scott is a student at Hannah Quigley's school who is originally from Louisville, Kentucky and dates Kirsten Lundgren on-and-off over the years. He is generally a very kind-hearted, loyal, honest and caring person, especially when pertaining to his friends and family. He is a guy who wears his emotions on his sleeve, and this can often be felt through his music, which is described as being very real and personal. This in no way diminishes his masculinity however, as according to his classmates, he has been known to turn violent and aggressive at times. Scott is very family driven and tends to be crafty, intelligent, and well known for his great writing skills, along with his sardonic humor. Despite his father's constant "screw ups" and drunken mishaps, he has always pushed him to be better and thought of his father as a someone deserving a second chance for trying to make an effort to change. He had a close friendship with a boy named Clyde in his hometown who played on the football team and has since bonded with him "over many hamburgers and milkshakes". He also likes to put the extra effort in when it comes to the people he cares about, as when he and Clyde were kids growing up, he hated the fact that the two of them would be in different grades, since his best friend was doing terrible with some of his courses. Scott is in many ways described as the typical "all-American boy" and is often perceived as the straight man among his friends. He charms many of the girls in his grade with his southern accent, causing Hannah herself to have labeled him as "Kentucky-Fried Scott", although his mother calls him Cricket. He considers a fun day for him to be just sitting on the couch in his living room, playing video games and eating delicious cream puffs. He is usually funny and understanding and seen as a take-charge kind of guy, which sometimes makes him even bullheaded, the opposite of his mother.

Scott used to live in Louisville before moving to Valley Stream at the beginning of fourth grade, yet he admits that he didn't want to move. He and his cousin used to spend their holidays on a horse farm outside of in their hometown, and he claims that he usually hates to shop, although he can be a careful shopper when he wants to be. He often dotes on Kirsten and reluctantly accompanies her to the mall whenever she wants to try on dresses, and he has also gotten buff nail polish when she went with him to get her nails done. He is not a morning person and spends his days sleeping or watching the clouds, with his goal being unremarkably to be free of anything good or bad, and die just as unremarkably as he lived. Scott tends to view most women as "troublesome", particularly his girlfriend, who according to his friends has a formidable temper that can make her rather intimidating. He is often regarded as dense, as he seems to be oblivious to the amount of female attention that he receives at school, most notably from girls like Hannah. He often requires an oversimplified analogy in order to grasp explanations and can even prove forgetful under some circumstances. He is aware of his faults however and admits at one point that he tries to act strong in order to mask his embarrassment and frustration about them. Scott is very image-conscious and is often concerned with his keeping up his appearance, as he accidentally shaved a bald spot onto his head one time in the bathroom. He likes to work out in his spare time and is aiming to be the strongest boy in his grade, causing him to go to the gym and lift weights with the other boys. At Camp Mosquito, he earns a Hiawatha badge, which means that he can do any water sport, and is promoted to being a camp counselor a year later. He still mentions that he was in danger of being kicked off the baseball team, as the coach was expecting more out of him and started to get nervous and make mistakes because of that.

Scott can also be very compassionate and is shown to be good with children, leading him to babysit casually as he was growing up. He has always strived to be the perfect student, as well as the ideal son, best friend and boyfriend simply to please everyone around him. He is fairly social and works as a busboy at the local cafe, being the youngest employee there, and his boss doesn't like him getting phone calls or talking to friends while at work. He is seen as a selfless companion and an adviser to his friends and tends to be kind and fair, hoping to give everyone around him the benefit of the doubt. Scott is very determined to follow his dreams of becoming a professional musician, and is very sure in himself and doesn't understand why he would ever pretend to be somebody else. He loves all kinds of music, yet he mostly likes singer-songwriters and country, and before joining a band with Clyde, he played guitar and sung for his uncle's band, the Tri-Stars. He loves his parents and is upset with them when they show reluctance to let him perform, although he quickly got over this when his mother explained that she'd almost gotten into the industry, but she'd quit when she was unable to sign onto any studio. He is also very close with her cousin Malcolm, who will often join take risks with him, such as helping him perform and reunite with Clyde. Scott can also be considerate and is mindful of other people's feelings, as shown in his reaction to Hannah's confessing his crush on him by giving him a handcrafted valentine. He immediately felt an attraction to Kirsten and her good looks, in addition to feeling intrigued by her popularity and active social life, but was charmed by Hannah's emotional honesty. While he ultimately didn't reciprocate her feelings for him, he expressed sympathy for her and formed a genuine connection with her as the two sat at the playground and talked things out.
